Dodge Versus Parry

Post by geneseto »

Heya,

I am playing a primary caster (light armour) who occasionally dual wields a dagger and sword if needed. At present, I only have 30 Fight, have basic 20q light amour, and am still on noob Mantis island. I have some spare Fight points, and was wondering what skill tree to invest in for the "after dodge" vs. "after parry" options. I know how to switch modes between dodge and parry, but really can't see any differences or benefits when I do. I have heard some theories that the (future) amour bonues have an impact, light versus heavy, and that 1hd versus dual wield versus 1hd/shield may all alter the equation. So, my questions are if either skill line is useful in my current case, and which would be better?

Thanks.

Seems most armor will have bonus for dodge. Wether the bonus works or not i don't know. When i think Parry i think fencing and blocking a attack with a sword. But i've tested both ways and don't see a difference... your guess is as good as mine.

So far the biggest issue to me (numpty that I am) in terms of dodge/parry is ... how do I know what mode I am in? If the button says 'Parry', does that mean that hitting the button will switch me into parry mode or that I currently am in parry mode .... awww, life's mysteries

Its the same as the Run/Walk mode button or the Stand/Sit mode button I assume :| I forget which way round they are, but it shouldn't be too hard to work it out ;)

The clue is in the info in the system window. If it says 'you dodge kipee attack', you're in dodge mode. If it says 'you parry...', you're in parry.

I think the symbol is the mode you will switch TO, not the one you are in.

In determining which skill, attack after dodge/parry, you must first get armor and weapons dedicated to one or the other.

Dodge is by far the easiest (and most common).
And get a weapon that matches. (High dodge, or medium dodge, generaly
any weapon made with yana wood will be good enough)

As for armor, if your using light, you'll want
Anete Fiber, Gulatch Oil, Visc Sap, and uh, Moon Resin
For Med/Heavy, Switch Anete fiber with Eoyta Wood. and Tada, you have
yourself some decent Dodge armor.

Basicly, invest in the one you can support with equipment =)

Hi!
I'm pretty sure you meant Shu fiber for the dodge effect ;)
And, agreed with septic01, Eyota is the worst shell for dodge armor.
