Looks a bit like a mug-shot of Skeletor from the old He-Man Cartoon. *LOL*

I saw that on the french boards too, but I don´t know too.
The skull points to something with DP, at least for me.
Its relative smallness in pixels points to a button, maybe a new design for the "less DP for your bug" kisses, breaths' ?

I recall from long ago there was a hard to see "face" in the gem on matis HQ heavy armour (or was it medium)... perhaps with the improved graphics quality on newer machines this is what it looks like?

What you refer to is an easteregg that truly shows the face of some Dev.
Sadly my own screenshot of it is gone, but you can find it in the gem on male Matis High Quality Medium Armors breastplate. All colors.
Just zoom in a bit and look at an angle of about 45°

It doesn't look like it's on a menu background though. It looks like it's just floating in front of some green grass.
(reminds me more of Baldur's Gate. THAT had a skull in a circle. Skeletor?? Really?? His skull is yellow!)
