The current "dynasty" system is the main problem with OP's here.

Then, when you add the fact that they should also be GvG instead of faction wars, which leads to tiny guilds (that wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of holding them in proper PvP), actually owning OP's "in perpetuity" then you have the most stagnant PvP system ever created.

Who caused this?

The "community".
I don't get it...

You want to PvP? you want to own an OP? Then whats holding you back?

Back when Evo had an OP we could not hold it on our own but we had allies that could help us just as we would help them. We also shared the resources we got for our OP with allies that's how politics work brains over brawn...

Those who like to bash other peoples brains in will always be used by those who like to keep theirs inside their skull. The latter are called leaders the former cannon fodder. Leaders realize that the best way to win a war is by not starting one in the first place and the best way to avoid war is by spreading the wealth...

But like I said if you want OP wars no one is stopping you but you. Winning an OP war however is a different matter but with enough friends/allies it shouldn't be too hard...

on a side note I do remember something about tribes wanting to take back their outpost suggesting NPC attacks on guild owned OP's but that never became a reality. Might be a good idea for non-PvP OP's though.

edit: if a small guild manages to hold on to an OP either by not being challenged or by mobilizing enough support to successfully defend it could you then call such a guild "powerful"? and should not such a guild be entitled to own an OP?

Actually we have two OP's, I personally dont "need" an OP, my post isnt about me, its about the stagnant PvP.

My point is OP's are designed to be owned by "guilds" as their rewards are guild oriented.

I think only guilds strong enough to hold an OP on their own, should have them and they should only be owned for a couple of weeks then they go into contention and be fought for again.

What happens currently is nepotism, big guilds can take OP's for their mini guild mates, which they keep for ever, thus disenfranchising other guilds from contending for the few OP's that are left.

Anyway, its just my opinion, but it prevents me from bothering my arse logging into the game except for OP's as its the only PvP left apart from the BS "chase me" game in Yrkanis and theres not alot of point in me subbing for the odd monthly OP that may or may not take place.

I think the lack of battles is largely because of the tiny population and overdose on rewards.

We've got too many OPs and too few people/guilds. Those remaining have more cats than they know what to do with so there's little incentive to fight over OPs anymore. OP output should be limited based on active server population imo.

Great idea, definatley scale back the output.

As regards the amount of OP's, Ryzom is weird, I am a bit two sided on this.

1. Make more OP's available if the current nepotism is to be condoned.
2. Allow only one OP per guild.

OR....

Make only 2 OP's per server available, or at max, one in each land, all Q250, no BS lowbie OP's.
Always contention every seven days.

In high population MMO's (2 mill+) with castle sieges, there are never more than a few PER SERVER, every week or two they go into contention, In Ryzom its farcical, the amount of OP's available and the guild membership level that holds some of them, is beyond a joke.

Or let's just start declaring on eachother again and have some fun? Doesn't really get any harder than that..

Thats not PvP and it doesn't address the fact that OP's are being held in perpetuity in a quite unfair manner.

I'm not sure I understand what this "contention" thing is, and what the current system is.
If the players take matters into their own hands and decide who's being unfair by ganging up on guilds holding a monopoly, I don't see the problem. Does the current system somehow stop this from happening, or is it a lack of player interest in maintaining fair balance? If the latter is the case, I'm not sure there's a game mechanic that could fix that aside from a great equalizer that gives everyone cats whether they deserve it or not. :S

If beating each other with sticks and stones isn't PvP then I surely fail to grasp what PvP is. Care to enlighten us?

Just curious with opinions....
I started playing in 2005. Soon after that, Nevrax took the decision to start forcing the implementation of PvP in Ryzom. I was a starting noob back then so i didnt much care, but i do remember how angry the players were, the forums were ablaze and an exodus followed.
Whats left of the Ryzom community now has nothing to do with the community that i remember back then, completely different mentality, very PvP centered, thats not how this community was.
I might be wrong of course, but in my eyes the accent on PvP played an important role in the decline of this game.
I think Ryzom was originally not designed with PvP in mind http://web.archive.org/web/200408030454 ... rialnotes3 , battles in Ryzom were supposed to be lead against hordes of monster invaders, not against other homins.
When i first subscribed to Ryzom i was attracted by this http://web.archive.org/web/200408030041 ... rialnotes4 not by PvP.
According to the manual included in the original Ryzom box, there was no pvp involved in the outpost ownership.

Also when thinking about who or what ruined the game, consider this: a new player decides to give Ryzom a try. He comes, he looks, and he likes what he sees. He wants to play it and eventually bring his friends. He will want to make a guild right? Unfortunately new guilds in Ryzom have little chance of survival, new players are encouraged to join existing guilds, with no concern for the fact they might not fit in any of these guilds. So for our new player, its either join existing guild or quit and go try something else. Many of them will chose the latter.
So stop blaming everything on the lack of communication of the new owners, this game went down twice before they took over and you should be really naive to blame it on lack of communication.
