Actually, milk is commonly classified as food. Yes, it's liquid, but don't let that fact deceive you.

Ryzom *is* like milk compared to fizzy drinks of other MMOs: it's tasty, healthy, wholesome, nutritious and somewhat hard to digest if you are lacking a proper enzyme.

Yes, I'd definitely pay for a good bottle of full-cream milk.

(To be honest, Ryzom definitely needs a lot of polishing, especially the game interface itself. Missions, for instace, they are still far from friendly. Giving the players an ability to build some proper interface mods with LUA scripts would certainly help. But I suppose that'll be coming eventually.)

To (miss)quote Terry Pratchet:

MMORPGS are a business a lot like dairy farms.
You try to get out the maximum amount of milk, with the minimum amount of moo.
Unfortunately, all we seem to get from most of the other games is moo.

So, please!
No, retarded "find me my way through the game", "let the UI do the actual playing" Addons for Ryzom. For heaves sake, no!
I want to play may game, not have an UI do it for me.
I want to use my brain, not have an Addon show me where to go and where to find what and when.
And believe it or not, I played WoW for a time, without any Addon and I enjoyed it, while it lasted.

Ok, an optical overhaul, some new nice polish wouldn´t hurt the UI.
But with all the customizable things already INGame, I don´t think custom UI-Addons are relay necessary.
They´re for the lazy, not for people who really enjoy the game their playing, the way it is meant to be played.

I could just as well have a chess-computer set my pieces for me when playing against a friend.
I´d maybe win, but would I enjoy the game I "played"?
Certainly not.

If it comes to that we´ll get Korean leveling services soon after, eh?
So I can pay someone to play the game I´m paying for, just to reach max. level in record time. Yeah, right....

No, I didn't mean anything like QuestHelper and such. Just some overhaul of certain interface thingies to make it less cumbersome.

For instance, I'm wasting needless time trying to organize my quickbar. There's no easy way to drop the icon from one bar to other (or, if there is, I didn't find it). I'd very much prefer an option to place as many icons on the screen as I like, and to place them where I like.

Or, minor compass modifications, like a possiblity of adding custom indicator dots instead of default ones. Colourblind people would certainly appreciate having a triangle, square and circle icon, instead of having a blue dot, pink dot and grey dot. One-pixel dots all look the same for colourblind person - some are dark dots, some are light dots, but that's pretty much it.

Or, something to set and publish your roleplaying status and character profile.

Or, some more friendly way of keybinding.

Or, some alternative interface for merchant window (I can't stress this more).

There's plenty of stuff Ryzom could take from WoW addons without getting dumbed down.

Right click a quick bar icon, you will get a Copy, Cut and Paste choice.

You can change the dots.

Keybinds are easy in Ryzom, dont see any problems personally.

RP? meh.

Not had a problem with the merchant interface, I have heard of people selling stuff in error to the NPC, but thats because they wernt paying attention, there are two sale buttons, Players and NPC, pretty straightforward to me.

Just a heads up, you can cut/copy/paste bricks now, just rightclick.
What's wrong with the keybinding?

I do think a general "freshening" and bringing up to speed of the UI would be nice.

There are a number of polished games out there that are free and don't require a monthly subscription. There's a few more that offer perks if you "donate" which seem to get along as well... They do fine. But if I pay? I should hope to have better expectations of the game and future content.

Frankly though? I'd gladly pay.

The people who scoff at the price of a subscription baffle me. Their opinion is their own, and that's fine, but let me see if I understand these people correctly (not saying anyone in this thread is one of these types either):

You expect a company, that has 1000's of dollars worth of monthly costs, from development and team salaries to bandwidth and associated server costs, to stay afloat on the revenue from the initial box purchase? Then you as a customer turn around expect the game developers to provide YEARS of patching, bug fixing, troubleshooting, and above all NEW content? All for a measily $50 USD (roughly) at the time of purchase clear back in 2004?

None of those costs I mentioned are static! They're not one time purchases! ;)

I'd gladly pay for an account. I would pay for an account if it meant that there were people working night and day FOR A LIVING, maintaining a virtual world that I come to, to escape in. That work to fix problems, and add content. (Whether the current team is actively working on said things is debatable at the moment. ) I'm sure most of us here have played other MMO's.

A game that doesn't charge a monthly subscription, can you sincerely believe, on the day it comes out and you purchase it, that it will, without any doubt in your head, have the longevity of a game that has a steady source of income?

Before anyone points to Guild Wars in response to Aimus... No. Guild Wars has extremely wide appeal compared to Ryzom, and its publisher runs several subscription-based games.

I think I came off sounding a bit harsh too :o

If a game can pull it off, more power to them. I'm a firm believer, however, that I get what I pay for. And that doesn't mean all games that charge monthly subscription fees are inherently better, but if had the choice to pick between two, I'd go for the one charging a fee.

Now I just wish I wasn't so poor.
