To incite people at my working place to get interested into Ryzom, I thought of doing a new blog where the information put in it would be in the form of the life of a homin through his own eyes. Without mentioning what this would be about, people would at first have no idea what it is but those interested into this kind of game would keep on reading until they start asking questions about which game this is.
Also, I think I should describe the daily life with non gaming terms. I want people to get curious about it because it is a strange fictional story and then later reveal its about a game.
I thought this way would produce more results then my previous attempts where I simply mentioned the game Ryzom and told people to go look at it. I had a very little success rate there.
I hope you understand what I mean. I have started a similar project where I am telling a story about a movie idea I had for a long time, in the form of a personal log of a victim, telling what is going on from a day to day point of view. Then at the end I intend to reveal what this is about (there is a purpose for this).
If I actually go with this (because it will be a long process and I will have to create a new playing char to have him live his life on Atys and record it on a word processing and I will have to reserve some time for this too) then some situations I will not know how to describe. So this is where my forum thread comes in. If I have other questions, I will simply reply back here.
Question-1
How would you explain the playing character dying and respawning back ? How would this be through the eyes of a living homin. Why would he respawn and simply not die. Some divine intervention is at work but who, how and why.
Question-2
The initial arrival of all refugees on Silan is due to what ? Where were they before. Did they get transported from somewhere and by whom ?
Question-3
How would you describe the act of harvesting ? Is it done via a magical power (don't recall the harvesting training terms) ?

You're not really going to be able to pull this one off in the format you want. Best bet is to have the character go unconscious and wake up safe. Never really sure why it happens, but fearful and wary of future events knowing he almost died.browserice wrote: Question-1

Homins are dispersed throughout the old lands after fleeing from the kitin way back when. Eventually homins find the ranger camp or they are brought there by patrols searching out refugees. So, initially homins are wandering or encamped in old lands (prime roots of far away lands) where they have fled from the kitin. They are brought to the ranger camp to help prepare them for re-integration back into society in the new lands. So your character may just be scratching out a nomadic life until he is found and brought to the camp.Question-2

Prospecting can be described as "divining" which is a practice still in used to day (google it). Focusing on different energy patterns will divine different materials. Otherwise, it's just a matter of pickaxe and digging the divined sources out of the ground (cautiously).Question-3

Good luck on the project. I hoped that helped a bit. I've seen other projects like this that were pretty virally successful (but they were not trying to describe something as different as Ryzom in the guise of regular current day terms).
Peace,

I and most other RPers on Leanon, like to explain this as divine intervention before death. As it was said in the original lore.browserice wrote:

The Homin in question falls unconscious and slowly slips into a coma and unless he/she isn´t healed by another Homin, is then healed by his/her chosen entity via the "holy seed" inside each of them.
This is btw. explained when you enter the game as a new player and "die" for the first time. But nobody reads popups anyway
Not all Homins were transported to the Prime Roots sanctuary by the Karavan back then. Some had already fled or arrived too late, after the "Rainbows" were eventually destroyed by the amassed Kitin.browserice wrote: Question-2

All else ss described above, but with the addition that a Homin might just as well stem from one of the tribes of the new lands.
Why not? Rural kids get fed up all the time with their normal way of life and move to the big city

I´d go for the divining act too. A magical search and activate, so to say.
Some have speculated that the sparkling "dust" a Homin throws from his hands after the prospecting process, might in fact be a small amount of "magically" charged Sap from the Homins own veins, tuned to the energy patterns of the material said Homin is looking for. So I partially agree with suib0m again.
And I myself have tried for a long time to describe "life on Atys" in everyday terms. For example I came up with a shortstory describing the act of crafting Magical Amplifiers, the way it would look like and be done if Aty would be real.
I could translate it in time if you´d like.

It's even mentioned in the tooltip on the HP bar, if I remember correctly.acridiel wrote:I and most other RPers on Leanon, like to explain this as divine intervention before death. As it was said in the original lore.

Re: Need answers from a homin's point of view
The thing is, I think he wanted a way to explain things in RL terms. Divine intervention isn't the kinda thing you'd normally see in real life . He could get away with it if he was a young and frightened homin that hadn't learned about the Karavan or Kami prior to his introduction to the ranger camp.
Many facets of Atys life will need to be obscured well to work in the format of an RL viral blog. I think it's a great sounding project though.

Re: Need answers from a homin's point of view
best way is to say that when they are killed their soul still remains intact and is reborn, keeping all their knowledge. Or like mentioned, the homin goes into a coma and the kami/karavan are able to resuscitate the soul.
Or just say he was KTFO and was carried back to the camp and tended for

concussion and memory loss, great

Uh. No. Why would you say that's a best way after we've thoroughly established that that is not what happens?scarazi wrote:best way is to say that when they are killed their soul still remains intact and is reborn, keeping all their knowledge.
