[Closed] Trial players: become a ghost player on mainland

Post by browserice »

Details:
Some games allowed players to become a ghost player. Being invisible and unaffected by anything happening in the game, they are capable of simply traveling around and looking.

Why:
To give trial players a first hand view of what it looks like to be on mainland and see what others are doing. Many trial players feel either unsecured or confused as to what goes on on mainland and what they have to expect. Also, some trial players becoming registered get frustrated once on mainland because it is not what they thought it would be like.

Notification of it:
It should be mentioned in every places where the trial subscription is mentioned.

Conditions:
Only available to trial players for a maximum amount of hours (we don't want trial players to just ghost around, now would we).

Contents:
-Maybe in the form of a portal on Silan ?
-Once the player is ghosting around, he should have a constant menu on screen where he can switch to another continent or go back to Silan (or should it be a portal on each continent?)
-An on screen timer should indicate how much time left there is to use his Ghost ability

Still thinking about doing a full 3d rendering of Fyros (call it Ryzom 3.0 if you like).

Moved to Brainstorming as this is not related to community marketing, and for any further discussion.

But it could be used as a marketing tool and as a re-assuring tool for new players.

Exemple-A (extend of the idea to players that haven't tried it)
-Mr X learns about the existance of a game called Ryzom.
-Mr X goes to the Ryzom site, reads a bit but like 90% of people, doesn't read everything.
-Mr X sees that its a 1Gb download. He hesitate because it would take long to do so. Should he download the whole thing or try this other download that is somekind of Ghost camera (download is alot shorter as there this is only a viewer tool).
-If Mr X feels like he does not want to waste his time download this thing or be disapointed into the game, then he would definitively download that Ghost camera tool and travel around to see how people are playing on different continents
-Then if Mr X feels he would like this game, he will download the 1gb trial.

Exemple-B
-Player-B has been playing on Silan and has done about half the missions
-Player-B asks about how is it like on Mainland. People tell him there are no mission and that he will mostly be free to do what he wants.
-Player-B is confused as what he has been doing on Silan the whole time were mission quests just like other MMORPG games he played. So he does not grasp the concept on mainland.
-Player-B is unshure if he should go on mainland. What would he do ? Where would he go ?
-Player-B learns about this Ghost camera to travel around in mainland and be unseen/unhurt. He gets curious about it as it would give him a chance to really see what happens on mainland.
-Player-B activates the Ghost camera and travel a bit around, from one continent to another. He sees what its like. He sees how friendly people are, how they are helping each others. He thinks "I won't be alone"
-Player-B disables the Ghost camera and feels more assurred about heading to mainlan. He even gets eager to go to mainland.
-Player-B makes the decision that he will be going to mainland either now or when he finishes all his missions. He is no longer afraid.

Example C:Player A has been playing Ryzom for quite some time, but is tired of sneaking through aggro zones.
Player A creates a new trial account, Player B.
Player B "ghosts" into the aggro zone.
Player A uses the information to see when and where to go.

Also, Example A won't work because to see the mainland, you need the data from the 1GB download...
The only MMORPG in which you bash each other with wooden swords exclusively.

Ghosting thrue the game would be mostly use as a spoiling tool. Another example : since it is possible to log on ryzom two times on the same pc with two accounts (yes, no line on the contract is against) it would be really usefull to follow people to see where they are drilling, to get information in AP's battle, ...

Looks like risk free boss checking tool to me.

Far too exploitable.
