is there an answer as to why pvp has been deactivated in umbra?
some people have mentioned it in other threads but I believe this is an important issue that needs resolving. Many diggers may disagree with me but they have plenty of non-pvp zones to go play in if they didnt like it.
Lands of Umbra
Re: Lands of Umbra
My guesses are as follows:
1. Ooops
2. They wanted to start off the newly reopened community w/o any bickering hoping to reinforce the feeling of "community" for a few weeks.
There are plenty of other PR areas but not all PR areas are created equal.
It doesn't much matter to me, at least given the player base we had. If everyone respects others game choices it really doesn't matter what the game mechanics are.

all in all pvp zones is a must have

Re: Lands of Umbra
The pvp in LoU has been broken before, I don't think it's intended.
And certainly the pvp events there were nice and fun.

I suspect its a bug, too. Not one that I am particularly sorry about however - events that used this were rare - much more frequent was certian people killing low level diggers over and over (and camping by the respawn so that the only option was to do something else or log out). Probably entertaining for the person doing it, but the sort of thing that tends to sacrifice the enjoyment of a hundred or more for the sake of one person. Not really very well designed in my opinion - if a PvP area is desired it should not be in the low level areas.

The point is that most of people misunderstand the meaning of the PR PvP regions. They are not ment to be an area for 'solo' diggers, but the concept was that guilds should organize themselves to go there in group to dig for the sup mats. It's just similar to the OP with the difference that we do not need to declare a war for that, but it's just something related to the relations between players, guilds and factions.
I agree with you that maybe would be better to have some different choice, but this behaviour seems to me very realistic in an environment where the players decide how things can be done.
That's just my opinion.

I disagree. Also using phases like 'misunderstood the meaning' is annoying when talking about a topic that many people have differing interpretations of, because it implies that yours is the only correct interpretation. It isn't.
And as regards the rest of your point, I don't have a problem with PR PvP areas. I have a problem with the fact that the only low level PR zones are the PvP ones, and the only high level PR zones are the non-PvP ones. That seems terrible judgement on behalf of Nevrax, to me.
Re: Lands of Umbra
Well, maybe my english is not perfect, but i clearly stated that was just my opinion, so it doesn't implies anything else.
Your point is valid as mine.

Re: Lands of Umbra
both points of view may work together: make the supernodes area lvl 250+ with a relatively low density of aggro (to allow pvp at all) so that guilds can organise and come in group to dig/defend/attack.
It's not like the newbies have nowhere else to dig PR. But it's missleading as long as you don't have someone to teach you some US areas are safer than LoU even without pvp, or bring you to the Abyss of Ichorr (q200 no pvp). And it may be annoying for pve-only people or those who are dedicated to only dig and craft.
However the point is the bug, discussions about pvp in PR have already filled hundreds of pages.

Re: Lands of Umbra
my proposal to remedy the PvP vs nub digger problem is to switch the supernodes to wastelands and make it a full pvp land. Umbra will then be a beautiful almost aggro free paradise for noob PR diggers to dig themselves to 200 without the hassle of anything like challenge.
may as well do underspring while we at it,oh and bring back kitin patrols. There will be no whines about pvp for lowbies then as anyone without a multimaster couldnt go near the place.
stick to desert if you like safe digging eh
