I voted no, I'm not really bothered if the game is wiped or not, as long as I can live in Fyros again, it's immaterial to me, what level I am, Grinding is grinding, whether you are killing a Yubo or a Plod.

But the reason I voted No, is because of Dentons post, when people feel that strongly and can argue so persuasively and passionatlely for No Wipe, All I can do is support them in their endeavours.

I voted yes simply because I started to get bored with my character once i had a number of 250 titles and really enjoyed starting again when the Cho server was launched, I had a lot of fun. So generally just personal preference.

I can see why a lot of players do not want a wipe and they make very valid points.

All in all I would be happy with what ever option was the best for attracting new players. I'm sure everyone has their own views on what is best for that.

In all honesty I don't really know which option to think would be better, I'm sure their are pros and cons of both.

On an individual level, I wouldn't mourn a wipe too much. I'd be devastated at the loss of a few items that hold sentimental value, but I'd get over it. And remaking Nysh, she might not have such horribly skinny arms.

In terms of the community, though... a wipe would be horrendous. For all the reasons Denton so eloquently put forward, and because the community has a structure. One of the best things about Ryzom's economy is that dappers are pretty meaningless - if you need something, you just have to know the right person. If you need new jools, you don't go and buy them from a shop... you go to the jewel crafter you know the best, or who is in your guild or a friendly guild. If you find a lost looking newbie who wants to trek, you poke around your friendlist for all the people who you know will be up for it - Ryzom revolves around player relationships.

And yes, we could rebuild that if we had to. But why? The community we have now is fantastic, and it works like a charm. To destroy that would be to rip out a part of the game's soul.

An addition for the ones who refer to Cho and that they liked the new start there... that was voluntary.

You had the choice to restart on the new server or not. The ones who changed to Cho did it out of their own will. But demanding to wipe the achievements of the player's last three years and to force them to get their chars 'killed' is simply annoying, without having a choice.
A wipe, a restart in a MMO is such a dangerous thing with so much potential to get your complete playerbase angry - doing this without letting people to have a choice would be suicide at this state.

@ Final. You voted yes (and presumably started this thread) because you are bored with where you are with your character? Then just delete the character and start over. Not intending to be rude, just pointing out that a server wipe is a pretty drastic measure to relieve your boredom ;) You were one of the ones who went to Cho and started over, so you're not averse to such drastic measures to keep the game alive for you. You can always start over again any time you want, no need to submit the whole server to it though. Ditto @ Faa: if you wanna build a new family from scratch and do the whole grind again together - and TS is one of the best examples of a "family" guild I have seen (apart from Riders obviously ;) ) - then you have the tools to do so. I'm sure the players will be kept busy wipe or no wipe. Those who want to come back will do so without needing to be "kept busy", and the new players will stay or go, indifferent to whether or not there was a wipe immediately preceding their arrival, not knowing any different.

Bottom line. A deliberate wipe is unnecessary, and would only please a few ppl who could have their wish fulfilled simply by means of judicial use of the "delete character" button. Why force everyone down that path though?
3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

I voted for yes. my reason is simple i do want a fresh start. i do understand that many will not want to wipe, and i agree with them. they shouldn't have to. i dont know what impact such a happening would have on this community. and tbh i am not surew i want to see said impact either. all i can say is that for me a wipe would be a good thing. but tbh i would quite happily play as it was before also. infact i dont really care much as to whether there is a wipe. what i care about is getting back on atys as soon as possible.

Fully agreed, quoted for emphasis, "me too", +1, seconded.....

(Disclaimer: I am relatively high level and I have invested a lot of time in my char)

I see many arguments for a wipe wanting to "discover Atys again", or similar. This should not require other players to do the same. "Start all even" can only please achievers that need other players as references or, to some extent, as a marketoid argument for newcomers. I also understand that when it comes to "resources" that are to be shared (mats, ops, etc), keeping the status quo is a barrier for some.

This is not to say that there aren't valid reasons (uniform evolution of the storyline, creation of adhoc events adapted to "community" status, more time to allow end-of-game content...) although those would only last a few months. Look at fasi, he proved it is possible to be multi-master in a few months.

(players that want a wipe, just consider me a NPC, and oldie that wanders around minding her own business... :)

Same here. First, and as they say "I like my build". Second, definitely I would not have the same will/time/passion/novelty to restart anew.

This is subjective, persoal opinion.

While I agree with the rest of your post, I see the point that's not the same playing on a server where everyone got wiped or if you just deleted your own char and start as the only one from new. The ones who prefer a wipe want the whole community start from scratch as they hope positive effects from this.

But I strongly doubt that there are positive effects and if there are any, they would be only very short term. As an addition to the points that I mentioned in Gilgameesh linked post and my two posts above, you can add that a wipe would favor the experienced (no not the new players) super-grinders, giving them the levels, the mats and the ops while you punish the decent slow-levelers and roleplayers.
arfindel wrote:and because - on a more general note - this will keep players busy while devs, owners etc have the time to organise and have something worked out
This would be a very cheap and shallow occupational therapy for the mature community of ryzom, don't you think? We managed to survive GameForge with one year without any development, we also can wait some months without replaying the same old dumb grinding again and annoying and repelling the majority of the player base. The company should leave out dangerous experiments like a wipe and instead advertise the game. A bunch of new players that get into this (already working!) game would be occupation enough for us old players, without the heavy negative side-effects of a wipe.
