Level based OP battles

And, I've seen quite a few new players who want to PVP come and go, whe they realize that they must grind their way up to 250 to make a difference (or be secondary healers) instead of having a more natural progression of adventuring and PVP throughout the game.

i have to agree, ive been playing ryzom a month and half. op battles are the most boring, worst part of the game for me. all i can do is heal the healers..... for an hour.

and since its faction vs faction it isnt about strategy or tactics but about who has 2 to 3 times the number of players as the other side. so you either have an easy win, or you get pounded.

i guess with the fact the PM are now kara it wont matter as there wont be much point to going to most op battles as its an automatic win for kara and loss for kami.

With that attitude, you have gauranteed a loss.
There is far more to the OP battles than lining up and swapping nukes..
The KA got its initial dominance over the KA by out-of-battle diplomacy, making friends and allies.. and yes intimidating potential opponents.
If all you want to do is turn up at a battle and thrash around, well there are other games that support that style of play much better.
PvP is just a facet of Ryzom.. effectively stuck on the end to try and stop some bored veteran players from complaining as much. Treating it as the main aspect of the game is asking for disapointment.

You are partially telling the truth here...

Infinity was the historic champ, good players who had a plan. Their diplomacy was beating the Karavan players ass. The Karavan players held them in high regard and played Chess with them. Infinity got tired of some pettiness in their faction and left (the core of the legends), others came and their squabbles have splintered the Kami alliance to tears repeatedly. The Karavan players have changed over time, but they hung in there.

By believing that having some honor amongst themselves the members of the the alliance of guilds (called the KA by others) that stuck together, have managed to hold ground against others. In OP battles you are an Attacker or Defender, by having common ground... the alliance of mostly Karavan guilds have held their own.

Losses come from lack of numbers, which is often merely a lack of common goals...

The idea is bad.

1. Takes away the point of levelling up.

2. How do you expect people to keep q50 ops then if only q50 people can take care, people would level past that in a week and then who could fight to defend that outpost ? I mean come on levelling has never been so easy your average new player has never had it so good, easy pr access (bring back the god damn patrols), cats, anything they need crafted for free. You can level to 200+ in anything other than dig in a few weeks if your prepared to work hard and make an effort, and since pvp for outposts is mainly the endgame (if such a thing exists in ryzom) then you should have to wait for it not penalise long term players to make things for fun for the new ones.

And low level players q50 ish dont belong on a major battlefield anyway, thats the point your unskilled. Q100+ can have its uses if used properly and by anyone with a mind. Don't whine about having to heal either, some of us enjoy healing and to be honest its one of the hardest things to get right compared to some other skills id say. Healing the healers also makes a massive difference, trust me if healers didnt get that support it would all be over in seconds. Don't complain that new players can't instantly start press the win button and be able to take on people who've been playing the game for years, although the way things are now they pretty much can in weeks.

If they want pvp join a good guild, when I was in the dargonblades we used to have weekly guild pvp touraments team and solo for fun and prizes. There's plenty of pvp options available other than op battles for new players and I think they should have to train more before they can be true warriors on a major battlefield. Perhaps something else to encourage low level pvp or battles could be done...?

and yes I agree with what has bуут said. Imho just give us some more outposts and let them produce new mats and new plans instead of crystals then it will all be pretty swell... Having some ops in the void could be pretty neat aswell.

im guessing things like "out-of-battle diplomacy", "friends and allies" , etc. arent largely influenced by people playing the game for 2 months.

i dont see pvp as the main part of ryzom. the main part of ryzom is social interaction and leveling. however op battles are strongly linked to gameplay. op battles produce cats and op mats.

pvp is good game mechanic when done right, since good mechanics > content. i will admit id like to do some tactical or strategy based pvp. the only pvp ive in ryzom is op battles aka who has more players and tag up with 8 people and go hunt ones and 2s of the other side that you find hunting.

spend some more time in game mate and you'll find some good PvP thats not at all outpost related.

and outposts aint all about numbers. If you speak to a few of the more tactically aware kami about they will tell you.

In the old thread i tried to point out the pros and cons of capped level OP battles. What I really cannot understand is why you want low level players, aka newbies, be able to fully attend at OP battles.
Altough newbies can do battles just with healing almost fast, i think OP battles are a sort of 'end game' PvP content.
Do you think all the newbies go angry because they cannot do OP battles? Or just they have so many things to do, so many things to learn that probably they don't care at first. Majority of gamers want good PvE content first, and go for PvP later.

My opinion is that we don't need capped OP battles, we need PR OP, we need some more building into OP, in one word some new content around Outposts. Newbies have their path to follow first, before they can do the difference at battles.
