When I click on the shortcut, the install/repair client comes up. I already did that, and when I click "install" it validates the install. That takes a few seconds, then "Install succesfu", with a box "launch Ryzom", which is ticked.
Then I click finish, but it throws me right back at the desktop.
No error message.
When I look in the folder I installed it in, I only see one .exe (client_background_downloader_rd.exe)
The exe I need (I assume, client_ryzom_rd.exe) isn't in there.
repairing doesn't do anything.
Any suggestions? I want to try this game
Game won't start. (resolved)
Re: Game won't start.
Could use some extra details on your system really but lets see.
If your running windows Vista have a look at this: http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30884
If you've got firewalls/routers make sure the correct ports are open. See: http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7650
Also can try disable any antivirus scanners while you install.
Hope that helps... If not, try downloading that chat support tool. (Klients) =)

Re: Game won't start.
This issue is often caused by an incomplete unpack of your install.
There are two methods to recover from this issue:
1. The easiest but most time consuming fix would be to move any exe files from your ryzom\unpack directory then delete the \unpack directory. After deleting the unpack directory run client_background_downloader_rd.exe from the main \ryzom directory and select the "repair" option to re download and install the missing files.
2. A more involved option would be to open the\ryzom\unpack directory and move:
*.exe ,*.dll -> ...\Ryzom
*.bnp -> ...\Ryzom\data
*.ttf -> ...\Ryzom\data\fonts
Then delete the \ryzom\unpack directory and run client_background_downloader_rd.exe from the main \ryzom directory, selecting the "repair" option to re download and install the missing files.
