I pretty much ignored magic on my 1st 5 or 6 toons as I prefered the "boink bink on head" stuff. After each character wipe, I'd start over then choosing another melee weapon. But anything gets "old" after a while and when I started leveling elemental, and I saw the combo speels thought, that would be very cool for soloing. But alas, once I bought that skill I found that I could not make the spell that seemed to make the most sense.....a Root SPell combo'd with DoT.
Since then I kinda find the Afflict / Ele speels kinda "unfullfilling"....so I thot I'd ask what peeps favorite combos were and why they think they are effective. That done, what else wud ya like added that wouldn't be too unbalancing ?

Indeed not as effective as your idea but the root mixed with a nuke seems to work good solo on mobs with medium HP..

My most used combo spell
Heal hp + sap
but offensively
if I am just leeching.. Madness + whatever racial ele is good against the mob.
if I am trying to be useful.. Blind + etc etc
Madness is good because nothing is immune to it, and it can prevent some damage to the tank(s). Some mobs seem to have higher resistance to it tho, in which case I will switch to another affy. There is also the "madness xp bug" which does strange things to the madness casters xp sometimes, but only if they are exclusively using madness, doesnt happen if its mixed with other spells - including other OAs
Blind is good - providing the target isnt immune - as it reduces hits against the tank, and allows low level skills to hit when otherwise they wouldn't. Very good for helping other team members.
Combo spells in xp grinding are usually spammed, which doesnt allow affy spells to hold a link, unless the caster is paying a lot of attention. If they do 'hit', the effect seems to work for a couple of seconds anyway, even if the link is broken immediately.
For hunting, I pretty much use high level Madness on its own. Its great against aggros, Named and bosses, less good against herbies, and doesnt seem to affect 'avian' special attacks

Madness rocks on kinchers....seems the more damage a mob does, the betetr ,madness is....which makes semse. But what I was getting at is.....you fire an aff + ele and the ele does its thing.....and then yu either have to break the link and fire another spell or just sit there.....seems ....ermmm.....ineffective.

It is a bit counter-intuitive (jargonese for it just doesnt make sense
) but you can think of the ele spell component as a filler while you are trying to get a link with the affy. So you are still accomplishing something...
Ideally you would be able to lock up your opponent while still damaging them, but it doesnt work out that way.

As it was mentioned for Healing the best combo spells are HP plus Sap and HP plus Stam depending on who you are helping of course. It wasn't mentioned but as a nuker your best weapon for damage is a double damage spells such as a 2X Electric or 2X poison. Sucks the sap out of you fast but inficts the most damage in the game. Soloing as an Elementist is always a bit chancy and would leave the High danger targets alone but for medium levels while it's not officially a combo spell I just hot key a root spell next to a damage spell. Then i fire off the root. If it works, great im not going to get touched. If it doesn't well I'm already on my second hotkey firing a damage spell so usually (not always

Oops, shulda been more specific. What I was going for here was the "non standard" ones....the ones that are not on evry single peeps mage bar. One would just normally expect that the affinity spells combined with the DoT spelss should be an automatic. Right now a peep in HA has a huge advanatge over a solo mage say on a trek across PR. Be nice for solo diggers to have at elast a shot at killing / running away from an aggro in PR. Be nice even if the aff effect lasted say 5-10 seconds after the link broke so that you could meybe get in 1 combo / 2 singles.....1 combo 2 singles. OTOH, I can see situations in PvP where this would be overwhelming.
