Yep, actual food would indeed be neat. It's funny how our characters ended up eating caprice seeds and drinking enola sap, which I don't think were ever meant for consumption by homins. One usually does not make their armor or guns out of edible materials. 
There's a lot of mission materials that do seem like they were meant to be food though. Berries, cereals, mushrooms, eggs, honey, fruits, spicy aromatic plants. Would be nice to finally have a real use for those.
