Problems getting the game to start(resolved)

Post by walpurgis »

I have searched the forums and couldn't find an answer to my problem. I installed Ryzom using the latest installation files... it installed just fine.

Once I start it up it checks the files then gives me a splash screen telling me that installation was successful and I check "Start Ryzom" click next and... nothing happens... the game doesn't start or even pretend like it is gonna start.

I am using Windows and what not and sifted through the files but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the game going...

It sounds like your firewall may be blocking the games loading, there are many threads on the matter which may help you.

I know you were working with Senior Guide Mokoi last night in klients were you able to get a resolution of your issue?

Edit: Moved files from \unpack directory and this resolved the problem.

Well, I'm having the exact same problem. Care to explain how you resolved it? "Moved files from \unpack directory" isn't enough for me..

Ok, after a bit more research I found the solution myself. Here's what I did (so others might know what to do if they experience the same problem)

What happened was that apparently the downloader had put all the files in the /unpack folder when some of them are supposed to be in different places.

So, I renamed the /unpack folder inside the Ryzom directory to /unpack.old and ran the updater again (client_background_downloader_rd.exe). This time the updater ran much quickly but created a new unpack folder with the apropriate files (it didn't download again, it merely moved the files). It also put the files that wasn't supposed to be in the unpack folder in their right places.

Now I noticed that the file ryzom_client_rd.exe had appeared in the /ryzom folder. Look for it and you should be set! If it's not there rename the new unpack folder to unpack.old2 or whatever and restart the loader. I actually had to do this twice to get all files where they were supposed to be.

Non the less, it now works!
