With Ryzom's unique open-ended skill system, I don't see how anyone could mess up. With the new patch/skill system upcoming it's going to be even easier to make the kind of character you want.

Planner??

We don't need no steenkin' planner.
This is open-ended, yo.

I suggest that you find whatever skills you are using most...check the requirements and check out the skills you HAVE but never use.

From what I have noticed...Fighter skills that I use mostly are increased damage, self heal HP (I also have the other stats self heal, and have mixed a few into ONE click so I can heal HP and focus while foraging, HP and sap when nuking/healing others, and HP and stamina when slinging daggers), I got ignore armor...and use it from time to time...I haven't gotten bleed or stun but then I only occassionally use swords and haven't even ever OWNED a mace (for stun).

The BIGGIE skill trees that have caused people to reroll a character more than once...that I have seen are Magic and Craft. A few points misspent in those seemed hopeless. I have plans on tossing aside my failed attempts at jewel crafting (that will more than likely give me ALL the points I need to finish off my armor crafting forms and give ONE or two more weapon forms. Jewel crafting forms at this point cost 100 SP EACH!).

SO my advice is get into game, test out each spell you can possibly afford. And look HARD at what you LIKE to craft and what you can not stand. And write all this down.

To try and give an EQ style..."this is the skill set for the UBBER character" sheet...well I just don't see that working in this game.

The fact that you don't need a character planner to be succesful in this game is what I think I like most about it. The only 'requirement' or 'must have' for any character i see is having a little brains and a little guts to experiment. I haven't seen, touched, heard, glanced at or even needed any guide for Kaitos and he's doing just fine. I'm soloing gingos for 3k a pop at 53 melee with no downtime, and to be honest, I think I even made a less than optimal stanza choice or two i'd like to take back to optimize him even further. Yay for respec :D

Oh ya, it also helps to have a great guild backing you up for when you start lagging behind in the gear department. A brand new choise q50 pike will make up for any 'weaknesses' in your characters melee build.

I'd be willing to write a program up in Visual Studio but with all the different skills in this game, it will take me a long time to finish. Still, it would be fun. I'll see if I can get started on it after I'm done with the program I'm writing right now :D
