That is due to GameForge moving web based things around.
Chances are all of the links are dead.

As to your other issues: You don't have to like the fact that Ryzom REQUIRES hardware 3D processing to work well. But it is a fact. The minimum reqs actually are the bare minimum to get the game to boot these days. In reality 768 MB of RAM and hardware 3D support like GF4 or better are pretty well required. And another fact is that even the latest Intel video chipset is way behind when it comes to 3D processing compared to the cheapest add-on card. If you want to play 3D games and have them look good you have to buy hardware suitable to the task.

according to intel, oblivion does not run ;-) (and according to intel, there is long list of problem games)

but about Ryzom... have you tried to set desktop to 16bit and run Ryzom in OpenGL and windowed mode ?
edit: bah... seem that in windows it's not supported (16bit color depth). Linux and wine works great.. go figure ;-)
I should've been clearer... WoW I have on my Mac side but have seen it running on the Windows side. I'd read that Oblivion worked, but I guess that info was wrong. I do know from personal experience that GW and DDO work.

I have put Ryzom in OpenGL and windowed mode, to no avail. The MacBook has the 945GM chipset, not the 950, but the 3d effects are software-based as far as I know.

All I am interested in is an answer that explains what makes the graphics break, rather than just a "you'd need a different card" response, since that obviously doesn't do me any good. I find it odd that the problem only occurs on player avatars, nowhere else. From my layman's perspective the graphics do not appear to be any more sophisticated than those in GW and DDO, so as far as I can tell the issue is that Ryzom's implementation of their graphics system has a texture problem. If someone can tell me why it *can't* be fixed (and could now also tell me why the most recent Intel drivers would cause the graphics to be squashed/stretched, and why that can't be fixed either), I'd be satisfied. Disappointed that I can't play Ryzom, but satisfied.

I don't mind that Ryzom requires hardware 3d processing. If I can't play Ryzom, so be it. But unless I am incredibly mistaken, games like GW and WoW and DDO are 3d games as well and require significant graphics resources on a par with Ryzom's requirements. But they work.

I suspect that part of my frustration here is that as a Mac person I'm used to a completely different approach to game system requirements. At any given time there are no more than 2 or 3 video setups for Macs, which means that if a game is available on a Mac, any currently available Mac computer is pretty much guaranteed to work with it. For it not to do so would kill the market for the game. It's clear to me now that this expectation doesn't make sense in the Windows world. So if Ryzom doesn't and can't ever work with the Intel chipset, fine. But I still want to know *why*. What feature or set of features does Ryzom have graphically that GW, DDO, WoW and the rest do not, such that in order for the feature(s) to work Ryzom has to let go of rendering textures on characters when the Intel chipset is involved?

Yes Intel works with other games that do not have true 32 bit texture engines like EQ, WoW, DAoC, Eve, CoH, etc.
I think this may shed some light on the case as to why certain games will work with Intel chipsets and Ryzom won't.

Someone should really put that in a sticky as an explanation for people who can't take a "it won't work" for an answer... :o

In fact, I thought Ryzom wasn't compatable with Mac/Apple lol
