Hi Nephy, I think I understand what you mean now
OK the reason for the compartmentalisation (I made that word up ) of the classes when teamed is because of the way XP is aquired.
For example, I want to level elemental, so I go on a Plod Hunt, now this is good because with the right combo in the team, I should get 3K XP per kill.
Now, say there is no Healer in the team, but I can heal a bit, the fight may go like this :
Puller pulls, I heal him on the way back as a top up, then make a few casts of elemental spells, as the fight nears the end, the tank may need some more HP or Stamina, so I cast whatever is required, the fight ends and XP is rewarded, and suddenly I get 1.5K in Heal and 1.5K in Elemental.
Now I want to level Elemental, not heal, so in a way, thats wasted time/xp for me.
So we try to compose a team with maybe 2 melee, 2 nukers and a healer or two, we are all levelling the skills we want and getting our full quota of XP for the skill we want to level.
Hence the specialisation you have commented on.
Am I understanding you correctly?

Re: In need of help!
And of course it may not just be preference...
Say I am leveling offensive affliction with some friends in Frahar Towers... (EG level 110), suddenly it goes wrong and I have to heal (level 220)... it ruins xp for everyone.
So people try to pick roles that work for the team as well as their own preference

Yeah, in the game (as in life) the larger the team, the more efficient it is to specialise. If you solo then you will do everything - you are a one-homin army. In a two-homin party one will probably be general mage the other a general warrior; it is only in larger parties that you can really specialise your roles. I hadn't considered the XP argument for role specialisation, but it seems a good reason too.fiach wrote:Hi Nephy, I think I understand what you mean now

Re: In need of help!
Variety is the spice of life!
Do something you enjoy
in order to excel at it you will need to train in other diciplines.. for example :-
A powerful offensive mage will need to train some form or melee to help build up his HP for casting costs and Frontine nuking to be most efective.
Or..
A strong Melee warrior will need to train a magic dicipline if he wants to become effective in PvP as this will allow him to build up resists against the offensive spells of enemy mages.
This is not written in stone of course.
Ryzoms greatest asset is that you can take your Character in any and every direction. take time to enjoy all aspects of the various skills and you will find your favorites and strengths.

Re: In need of help!
Thanks all for the replies I know there will be some crossing over in the skill trees, and there should be. But I have decided I'm going to focus more on healing. Being a social homin by nature I figured this is my best way into more parties.
