I am brand new to Atys, just a couple hours last night. I an a Zorai and wish to pursue all the magicial arts the world has to offer. There was some talk on these boards years ago when I searched on "magicians" but it all seems outdated.
I was wondering if there is any new information or a newbie guide to Magicians like there is for prospecting and some other things. What sorts of skills should I pay most attention to, what sorts of items should I be purchasing to wear and wield? Where can I eventually go to learn more about the depth of the magician skill and how it all relates to the world of Atys? It seems the world is very deep in gameplay the way the harvesting works and the weather and seasons.
Also a basic question about skill levels and points, I noticed that a couple of the stanzas overlap between the four skills, like Dexterity. Is there any other way that these four skill sets are interconnected? It seems like they are individual entities based on your personal style of play. Want to be mostly a fighter, go kill a lot of things with a weapon and you get your Fighting skill up and get points to spend. Crafting, go craft, etc. It does not seem like they have much of an inter-relationship other than how you wish to play.
Most of the strategy seems to come into learning how best to plan spending those skill points in each skillset to tailor your character to the way you roleplay?
Thank you!
Newbie Guide to Magicians?
Re: Newbie Guide to Magicians?
Hi and welcome
Guides are as you've noticed somewhat infrequent, a lot of the knowledge of Atys is passed on ingame, through guilds and teams and friendships, and random questions in the universe channel. So If you cant find what you are looking for here ask some questions next time you play and I'm sure there will be people to help you out.
in reference to your other questions, there are things that overlap between all 4 trainers, the stat upgrades, the stats that dictate your regen rates, self heals, some aura's and powers.
As a general rule be wary of spending craft sp on anything but craft plans, magic and melee will generate surplus sp before other branches, more so if you get a few levels in different branches after they split, so 1h/2h/ranged, etc. The same is true for digging after lv50 if you dig in other lands.
Dont be afraid of making mistakes or nerfing your character, its impossible to do. If you make 'bad' decisions all it takes is time to recoup some sp and train that more useful skill
above all have fun, learn what you think you should not what others tell you, experiment, enjoy and dont rush too quickly - this isnt an end game type of game, savour all of your levels

Re: Newbie Guide to Magicians?
Thank you Rushin, that is what I have been learning from reading through some of the forums and starting on some of the lore today. I played Warcraft for a short time back at the start of 2005 but while the quests were interesting, the world was severely lacking in depth and storytelling.
My impression of Atys so far from my extremely limited perspective is that this not the case on this world and I very much look forward to seeing how deep it goes and adding my own tale to its weave.
