As I stated before... I had very little trouble on Silan. I don't know many people, (of those who stopped to ask for a little help), who have had issues with the severity that you speak of.

I think the main issue with the responses you have received is the way with which you presented your issues. Had you posted a "what do you folks think" sort of thread rather than what you did, it would have set the mood to more of a support/discussion theme.

As stated before, you would have had less issues and a much more productive experience, had you simply asked for assistance... in-game or here on the forums.

A game that is so unfriendly for noobs that its sad. First thing im told to do is talk to some guy, but i cant find him... I'm placed in a city with 300 npcs and nothign to guide me to this guy.

He's standing right in front of you when you log in. I'm sure any number of other players on the island could have helped lead you to him if you asked.

"wow" that was a waist of time! 2nd i think ok well ill go kill something and get some exp.. I walk out of the city, see a bird i fire at it with my magic oversized gloves and it 2 hits me dead....

When you talk to Chiang, the NPC you log in in front of, he directs you to the various trainers. The fighter and magic trainers direct you to kill suckling yubos. This game is not easy and you wouldn't want it to be. What's the point of fighting if you're too strong to die? If the bird killed you, you respawn, realize its too strong, and look for something else. If you talk to the NPC's as instructed and lsiten to what they have to say, they tell you what you can kill.

Nexed thing i know im dead by some jurk who is hi level and thinks its funny to kill noobs..Who in thair right mind would put a PVP zone right ontop of a noob zone! So that noobs could walk into the zone and die witohut knowing it!!

The area ia marked "Arena" on the map. THere is an NPC outside that small zone saying it is a PvP area. You get large yellow text upon entering saying it is a PvP area and also get a full 30 second of warning messages repeatedly scrolling on your screen before you are attackable. If you do not wish to PvP, you have time wand warning to leave the area. If you're not paying attention to what the game is telling you there are any number of ways you will die.

This is the second post I've seen from someone who was frustrated with the newbie isle and, frankly, I'm glad I'm not a newbie in this game.

The 'wonderful community' we supposedly have here are doing a great job of taking the piss out of the guy - go us, eh? No wonder some people think we have a niche fanboy game community here... *sighs*

To some of you, the Isle may be totally obvious and simple but you've been around long enough to figure it out. People who just downloaded the client to try the game have not. They need more help, not having someone suggesting they go play tic-tac-toe.

While I agree that flaming the guy is not the best tactic, I do not agree with some of your statment. As i said in an earlier post in this thread I started playing a few days ago, Saturday (10/14/06) to be exact. I did have a little trouble, but what did I do? I asked in region chat, and I got very helpful answers from folks that were in game. When I got my butt handed to me by the first couple of critters I tried to fight, instead of getting mad at the game, I decided to watch some folks, and ask questions. Not everyone needs to have thier hand held until they are uber. Also the guy said he had played two years ago. I do not know how much has changed since then but he still should have had a basic idea of what to do and how to do it, which is more than I had having never played this game before. I am sure if the newb isle was as hard as he makes it out to be you would have seen more than 2 whole posts about it.

As a matter of fact I have been helping another person who is new to the game. I have helped them through several quests, I have even taught them some simple combat tactics so they can survive. Why have I been doing this? well, because they asked me if I could help them out. Most of us in the game are not psychic, we do not automaticly know when someone needs help. So if they ask for help I will gladly do so if I can. But if they stomp around and never ask a single question, how am i supposed to know?

In his last bit of ranting he says he plays WoW, that may give us some insight as to why he has a problem with this game, as Ryzom requires some actual thought process. I am not saying he is an idiot, but, if he is used to a game that requires hardley any thought and lets you level up in record time he will have to learn to ask questions and ask for help and not expect the Devs to change the game to make it easier for him. Also maybe the folks are responding to him in a not quit loving manner because of the original tone of his post. He is demanding that the Devs fix a perfectly good bit of programming because he feels he should not have to do a bit of reading and learning. If he stomps his feet and throws a tantrum verbly instead of posting something that's a bit more mature sounding he reaps what he sows.

Greetings sir, I am new to the game as well. I have no prior knowledge or perhaps biases from what ryzom was to what it is now. But I shall try to answer your questions in a ordered manner.

1) The gentleman you are to find, you are placed in front of...his name is Chiang...and you have to listen to what he says. Now if you have never played this game, as I had not. I learned a great deal, about the land, the races and even a little of the factions. He then suggests you find the other 4 trainers. Now you don't have to do all the training missions, but i would suggest it as to familiarize yourself with how each works.

2) Killing newbie mobs, yes sir there are these mobs. But there are things you need to make sure of first...a) is your weapon equiped. b) Have you conned the mob to see if you have a chance to defeat it. These are things you will learn in most mmo's as each one has their differences, and similarities.

3) Farming/Harvesting. Sir the area you walked into to harvest clearly states for a full 30 seconds that you are in a PVP area...and that you will be attackable. Now I have made the same mistake you did, and harvested any way, and perhaps that same high level char found me to slay as well...but the truth is...you are clearly warned with enough time to clear the area..and harvest elsewhere. You may also have noticed the skills at the top...these are things you are able to do. If you have started as a harvester...you can use the skill "prospect" to see about making your own glowing area to harvest.

In closing: If you do not want to take the time to read, and aquaint yourself with the game...then you will only become more frustrated. If perhaps you are looking for nothing more than a hack/slash leet mentality...again I state, you are looking for perhaps a different game. As for myself and many others, The People I have met have been helpful and courteous. The beginning area of Silan has been enjoyable as well as informative so to prepare me for the mainland. In truth sir, I am disappointed with your lack of ability to read and perhaps even compose your thoughts in a legible manner so that not only was it nothing more than a rant, than in truth, a plea to the people for perhaps a bit of assistance.


I have and will always take time out of my day to help a new person with the area. I ask only that they speak to me in a courteous manner. If you seek assistance, please drop me a letter, and I shall respond as quickly as I can. But I ask only that perhaps you take the time to re-aquaint yourself, otherwise you will always be irritated.

i played this game 2 years ago and it was boring slow...kill farm blah blah blah....no content!!

Now im back to give the game 1 more try hoping and praying its ben fixed, i download the game i log in i go in game and what do i find my self in...

Are you developers realy this clueless? So now i find my self thinking why did i even give this game a 2nd try. I't ben a bad experiance from the start! I'm sure ill get flamed for this, if every noob has this bad experiance from the start of this game, no wonder this game just cant get the life it should have.

FIX THE GAME!!! and you will keep player, It a shame becase this game could be so much!

I decided to learn the options to alter the forum text while I pondered a response to your post.....and I found this pretty yellow (do you like it ?).
Anyway I managed to understand the simple procedure because I saw there are instructions at the foot of the page (look down and I am sure they are also visible to you even as you read this.)
I do have a question regarding the full list of smileys (I have seen some nice ones and would like to know the codes), I will ask some of the players here in another thread when I get time.....cancel that...I just realised there is a search option I can use.. I will try that in a moment.
Now where was I.....oh yes....you were having trouble understanding the game mechanics and ...erm....PvP warnings ?.
