Re: What makes Ryzom worth it?
On the isle folks are forced into a small area by level (or non-paying account)... on the mainland folks go to town when they need to, unless crafting typically... There is a vast world above and below ground where you will find others and you'll have all those folks your level divided between 4 homelands as well.crag2004 wrote:Thanks for all the feedback, and im expecting a community on the mainland like it was on the isle.

Re: What makes Ryzom worth it?
Well, I'm only going to comment on the size of the world... the answer is "don't worry, it's big enough".
Let me compare with a world I'm familiar with... SWG. Ryzom is smaller than what SWG was at release time, when there where no vehicles. But definitely Ryzom is much larger than what SWG feels like now, when everything is easy, fast and easy.
Number of kilometers is not relevant since what also matters is the toon speed and the number of obstacles in the way (alive or dead).
A mixed team of veterans and newbies will need at least 3-4 hours to travel between all the 4 surface worlds through the fastest possible way.
I won't add the obvious "why don't you see for yourself" but the strong implication is there.

Re: What makes Ryzom worth it?
Well i started this thread when i just paying for the game. That about two weeks now.
The world is very nice, like on the island but just a bit better everywhere. Every "continent" has different terrain but roughly the same setting. All have some towns, some easy, medium and hard areas. Every continent is about 4 times the size of the island, and i havent gotten to the prime roots yet.
Ive been playing for 2 weeks straight, and im playing alot. I got into a guild in one day, with some nice people. All seem very veteran or very new. It's like they love it or they are like me, new. Im getting the feeling that once you have done the most, fun wears out. The world is deserted, if it wasnt for a great com-system it would be very hard to find someone of about your level to train with.
Training, Grinding, Digging and using the materials gotten from this for crafting is about the most you can do. There is not much roleplay, as there arent much people. I know this much feel like a big stab in the back for the community of real die-hards, but its how i feel.
Im not regretting that i payed good money for the game, and im not deciding yet if i will pay more after the month, its only halfway. But what i do know, that when you play a game a longer while, fun wears out. On any game.
Now i hope people wont flame me or anything, community has been great like said, and graphics/gameplay are nice too. Creatures look nice, fighting is cool, skilltree is perfect. Grinding in teams works like a charm, as only the highest skill used in a party is important. Alot of plusses to try the game, but there's a nagging feeling on which i cant put the finger.

That nagging feeling I think is that there is more to the game... and there is, but its something you have to work to find.
Roleplaying is done, the Samsara hold a regular RP event (A pub night, we had one tonight, next is 2 weeks from now), and plenty of RP players and a few guilds out there.
The real meat of the game is often missed in the grind. Learning how to sneak, what mobs attack what others, finding a 95 speed/damage recipe without using a single sup mat for your craft of choice, new and cool places you havent seen before, the curiousity of what the kitin lair will bring, or the return of old bosses that were from before your time so will be like new...
Two things make me love this game. My friends here, the atmosphere. And the complexity and depth hidden in apparent simplicity. You can dump a load of Sup mats on a plan and get a good result. Or you can expirement, find a new way using less valuable mats and get a _great_ result. You can bull through a crowd of aggro, killing them and fighting hard. Or you can look for that moment when you know you can sneak through if you take it...
