Right, I got a brief explanation of stanzas ingame and on the site, but being a dyslexic person with a hard time following verbal/written instruction, the stanzas explanation has me completely, utterly, lost. I assume it's a "spell build", I've got that, yes, and I'm sure there are people out there who will tell you ONLY to use THIS ONE BUILD or you SUXX0R - (not that I cared in WoW or EQ2, and I won't here either). But I don't understand how the combination works, what the colours mean, what I'm aiming for in a spell. It reminds me a bit of the morrowind enchants but I never really grasped that either.
Most of all, is it really necessary to fiddle about with the stanzas? I may just give it all a miss and stick with the spells I learn.
Thanks.
Stanzas - where's my slide rule?!
Re: Stanzas - where's my slide rule?!
The stanza make it possible to customize your spells (and all other action)
If you buy your first spell, it has 4 components. (If I remember right)
1. damage (the action)
2. time penalty
3. distance penalty
4. sap cost
nr. 2-4 make it possible to cast the spell. And those are very interesting to change. For example, if you remove the time penalty, you will cast your spell much faster. (but you will have to be closer to the enemy and will cost more sap). If you would remove sap cost, the spell will take longer to cast, and you will have to be very near the enemy to cast. (which is not very healthy for a spellcaster)
And no, there is not 1 build that is best. If people tell you that, then don't believe them. Players change them all the time, and have different styles to use them.

Everyone who tells you that has even less grasp on the system as you have
Sxarlet explained it pretty good, but as you are dyslexic I think a Video might tell you more then a thousand written lines
Enjoy
And have fun on Atys.

The stanzas you get from the trainers are pretty bad, specially after the first few. The magic stanzas all have time credits which are not desirable in most situations. The melee stanzas only have one type of action, e.g. either accurate attack or increase damage, where most player melee stanzas will have both accurate attack and increase damage.
Ryzom players won't call you names, but the critters have a way of telling you how you're doing. If you edit your stanza and easily kill something that was a close fight before, then it's telling you that you ROXXOR.

Thanks for the replies and the video as well, it makes more sense now than it did. As I'm still on the starter island I'm just faffing around anyway, so we'll see how it goes from there.
