If you answer yes to those, you get inter-shard trading. If you answer no to either one, then you can turn it off.

or you make them mutually exclusive, so you can have inter-shard scenarios with no rewards, or rewards but limited to same shard. I was posting this on the other thread i think :)

Personally, I don't care if inter-shard ring scenario access is enabled or disabled... it won't effect me as much as it might others... but if they are there available, I'd play them on occassion. However, I don't speak French or German, so I most likely wouldn't play a scenario on one of those two servers.

Only if it doesn't result in providing resources from one server to another. This, of course, makes offering rewards a little difficult for those from other shards.

I'm definitely not a fan of cross-server smuggling, though I haven't come up with a suggestion yet as to how one could reward players for completing a scenario AND be able to allow players from other shards access to each other's scenarios. /ponder

Sounds like the best solution to me.

As Oud said, if we are able to reward players from other shards with our own items, then there will be cross-server trading.

I'd love a system of limited rewards based on the difficulty of the scenario, but I can't think of any way to implement it that wouldn't be exploitable.

1. Do we want inter-shard Ring scenarios?
2. Do we want people to be able to give rewards in Ring scenarios?

If you answer yes to those, you get inter-shard trading. If you answer no to either one, then you can turn it off.
As I have mentioned in the other thread, the Ring's reward system could be managed by:
-tieing the scenario's reward to the level and/or type of it.
-limiting the amount of reward (maybe a sort of points-of value-calculation)
-depositing the reward(s) in advance, also annnouncing them in its description
-denying rewards to invitation-only scenarios,
thereby at least limiting the exploitation possibilities or at least adding a chance of "missing the destined recipient".

Pure trading or market place scenarios are absurd and to be denied their functionality (no participient trading).
Still... that's somehow not the right thread to discuss the Ring's reward system, is it?

Simple solutions are often the best; the more complex solutions offered of trying to tie rewards to level are likely to have too many holes.

I can't think of a good RP/story reason for this restriction, but I also can't think of a good RP/story reason to allow inter-shard scenarios at all. So, I guess that's a wash.

You got a point there...
Limiting all I said above to no participient trading and no rewards for invitation-only's would propably suffice at first, I guess.
Inter-shard scenarios are one of the Ring's main features... you simply can't turn that off, so a solution for the rest has to be found unless all trading and rewards are denied within.

To me, it depends on how we regard scenarios. What is the "RP reality" behind them? Are they just dreams or things we really did? If things we really did, then inter-shard scenarios honestly don't make any sense. People from semi-identical, but separate worlds interacting? Getting rewards and experiences with people that don't really exist in your world?

If they are just dreams, then how do any rewards make sense? Especially rewards that come from one server and end up on another server. But if you don't allow that, then how is it fair you were able to craft an uber-sword for a reward but couldn't give it to the "winner" of your scenario because he's from the wrong shard?

To some degree, treating them like dreams makes sense since we can't get any real mats or xp from them. But then let's get rid of any rewards (except maybe xp cats to compensate for time spent out of the "real" world). It makes no sense you dreamt yourself a new set of armor.

If the long term allows for scenarios that are part of the real world (i.e, non-instanced with real mats or xp), then those scenarios should not allow inter-shard participation.

This framing implies that the Ring terminal should mark scenarios as either "real" or "dreams" to help with the RP side of it. Of course, since the only ones that exist at the moment are "dreams", that change can wait.

I thought it was meant to be you could only take things from back from a scenario if it was fairly fought for... ie: the scenario is well balanced and has been approved by the staff...

Otherwise trade should be banned I feel.

Did you talk to the NPC next to the ring terminal? I though ring terminal was supposed to be path to the old lands (and ring maps are real places in the old lands)

No, I did not. If that's the RP (the places in the Ring are "real"), then how do we justify inter-shard anything (not just trades, but participation)?
