Or the Core of Atys because it is presumably not natural (this does not exclude the first thought...)
And the Dragon destroying the world could mean some kind of self destruction....
Interesting. If it were to be Atys, then Atys would be "sleeping". I do not see any signs of "sleep" on the planet. There is rain, lightning, snow, etc. So that idea I don't agree with, but it is still interesting.

As far as it being a ship. That's a very interesting idea as well, except the Great Dragon tried to kill hominkind by removing the light. Jena restored to us that light after she put the Great Dragon to sleep deep inside the bowels of Atys.

A living ship, sure - but the light would have automatically returned without Jena's help once it had "gone to sleep" no?

IF, however, we choose to continue these intriguing possibilities - then we can possibly link the Great Dragon to the Karavan. Furthermore, we could also stretch some boundaries and consider Elias himself as the Great Dragon. After all, some descendants of the remaining Trykers did claim him as Jena's husband, and Jena did leave the Karavan for us.

To gralen and whoever else wants to argue this with me, don't. I know what the lore pages say, the above is merely an interesting direction it could have taken.

Not wanting to start to argue.... but:
The planet is alife. That is a fact. Ever heard of the concept called biotechnology? And I mean the SF one, not working around with bacteria....

So, if Atys would be a ship made by a race capable of building huge organic structures (Jena?) and would let these structures evolve for themselves in the orbit of a sun, they will (assuming that enough raw elements are available) grow. They will grow until the ressources are depleted or the energy source is gone.
In either way, such a lifeform would have its own immunesystem (Kitins?),
and its own parasites (Homin?). And it could have its own central nervous system (the Core?) which would need special maintenance (Kami?), all assuming it would be a sentient lifeform (which would be asleep right now). That would mean that, at any time that lifeform would have been awake, so it could interfere with the existence of the evolving Homin.
Assuming again a race using physical tech comes that way and detects the reamnants of an ancient, superior (I assume Biotech is superior to physics ;) ) race will study it, with least interference (Caravan?). If their objects of study would be attacked, they could try to keep the balance in that experiment (the Kitin Wars?).

That would mean that, in the far future, Atys would awake and do whatever its creators intended it to do.......

if your wondering how i know this i forage... alot... and one day ended up staring at the sun and notticed it was getting smaller. the greaphics on it are quite well done. with a decent graphics card you should be able to see the corona and solar flares and such. much better than just a yellow dot in the sky. bravo nevrax!
Our own planet does that to a certain degree. The influence of our moon actually wobbles our path around our sun so the sun actually gets closer or farther as our moon rotates around us. Maybe there is something in orbit that rotates much faster affecting us similarly that would explain the difference in the distances in morning or night.

Another explaination is that we're orbiting the gas giant and not the star and that would also explain it getting larger and smaller.

That's pretty nifty :D Except Jena BROUGHT the Karavan to Atys. The Karavan are Jena's Disciples, and the Karavan are opposed to the Kami.

Let's not forget that it was the Great Dragon (you are assuming Atys itself, a sentient planet) brought the homins to Atys. Then it tried to kill them by removing the light, and starving the planet. So, if the Great Dragon is a living sentient being that is or is attached to Atys (as you are suggesting) then it not only brought the homins here but then it tried to commit suicide.

By the way, you should watch the movie called Kaena. The only reason I'm not 100% disagreeing with you (only mostly) is because this game has been very close to that movie so far, and if your idea is right (which I doubt, but I really like it anyway) it could continue to be similar.

I should really look that film!
Anyway, you should keep in mind that all tha myths we are talking about were made by people on the technological (and cultural) level of an Neandertaler. No doubt our godess did anthing, because we have no other explanation.....
And I, for myself, also hope I'm wrong. Bad thing if this would be true => no more fun exploring! If I should ever get deeply into the Roots and find anything that even nearly resembles somekind of a biocomputer, I'll quit! ;)

I second the motion - watch the movie and you'll see a lot of similar things in the movie to the game. Someone told me the guys who did the movie and Ryzom all went to school together. Plus the interview of the star of the movie is a treat in of itself.

Where can I get that movie? That sounds interesting with kirsten dunst as the main char's voice. Interesting enough this film was created in France I would think there was some kind of influence between ryzom and Kaena.

That probably would have been me ^_~ I can't see many others knowing that. Actually they didn't ALL go to school together - I believe it was the art director for the movie and ... well he told me the name of the Nevrax person, not the position.

I'm suspecting that they just both took the same myth and expanded on it in their own way. Then again, if I see a glowing blue light that contains the knowledge of a past civilization.. *looks at the "adds more to the mystery" post*

Okay, worry. ^_~

Don't forget that theres a number '1' next to the Atys :)
