Musicians/dancers in Ryzom?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

*chuckle* we did the "show me" response already,
Guess this thread is dead now.

I Hope you continue to enjoy Ryzom even without the dedicated dance content. :)

The point is that I want to play this game. There are many desirable things in it. But it has one fatal flaw - it doesn't support my playstyle. If games were only for active players to discuss there'd be no point in putting up forums before a game's launch. This thread exists to lobby for my playstyle to be included so that I can play the game, and so that others like me can play.

then start a "SUPPORT DANCERS" thread/poll and ask folk to sign it...I am sure you will see a lot of folk do agree with you. :)

Isn't that kind of contradictory?

You've made your point -over and over on all forums- now.
Most of us will agree that more socializing RP stuff will be very welcome, wether that be dancing moves, sitting on chairs and the like or casual wear without use...

You said you'd like to play. And you said you won't if your playstyle isn't supported. Hummh...
Can't you be as consequent as to
  • Either do play and make the most out of what's there to be an entertainer (which will be appreciated by our roleplayers - and there are many...) while maintaining a friendly "I wish there'd be dancing" voice out here on the forums,
  • Or look for an entertainer's paradise elsewhere? (I heard rumors by fans and devs likewise that D'n'L or WoW cure cancer.. maybe they let you dance...)
What you're doing right now paints a picture of someone in my mind who puts himself up in a BMW showroom saying to the vendor "I'd buy this car, if it was a Mercedes". Or more democratically: All colorblind of a nation stating that in order for them to pay taxes, all traffic signals had to be redone iconized...

Do or don't... even keep your dancer's voice (friendly) if you do. But stop trying to stir up something from the outside and start doing one of the above.

In what way? A game can have great potential and good features, but a fatal flaw can overshadow all the good stuff. In my view Ryzom has all these things: there's plenty to like but there's this one thing I just can't stand.

Anyway, I've decided to give up on the game altogether. The free trial was intriguing, but it didn't really sell me on the game, and I just haven't found the forum community to be all that supportive. It was probably a mistake to join the forums in the first place, and maybe it's a mistake to judge a game community by the supportiveness of forum members, since forums often have a lot of people who react poorly to anything that might be seen as innovative or challenging to the status quo. Unfortunately I felt that these forums might be a bit more accepting because the game community has a reputation for being inclusive and tolerant. Boy was I wrong. I've rarely seen such antagonistic and hurtful responses as I've seen in this thread.

Beery, don't take it personally. Players here just don't agree that the game is broken because the dance emotes are few. I hope you find a game that let you play an entertainer in a way you like.

Despite you being unfair in the last part of your last post, I wish you a lot of fun wherever you end up finding it.

From my reading of the responces in the thread the community was supportive. They gave sujestions on how you might be able to do a form of entertaining in the game and also said they would enjoy seeing entertainers added. Now fair enough that you don't find the sujested ideas enough for your enjoyment or to pay to play the game but you seem to be basing your view that the community reacted badly purely because everyone didn't jump into a picket in support of entertaining skills being added.

Anyway good luck Beery, I hope you find the game that gives you the entertainer content you want soon :)

Well, To give him Some support.

This community seems to be unsupportive of any and all ideas posed by its members by the "Elders" of the community.

Read any thread about a suggested change or addition. For some reason, the "Elders" here do not want to see any suggestions made, and seem to treat any suggestion as detrimental to the game and wont even suffer them to be discussed, and definitely do not wish to see the game change.

This is the feeling one gets when posting his/her idea here.

I think to many of them think that any suggestion , because it is based on another game (and that’s going to happen) would just be a copy and paste by the development team and therefore suffer the same perceived flaws of the system it came from, ignoring the fact that these developers do not make half assed changes and would not allow anything into the game that they did not develop and make fit in the game as far as setting and mechanics.

And that it is the developments team and wisdom that sets the schedule of things to be worked on not necessarily the players, no matter how good the suggestion... So attempting to "Think about scheduling and resources" for new ideas is moot for players to even ponder, and should not be a consern for posters...or even thoes using it as an excuse to shun or stop discussion of ideas.

And as a side note, like i have said before, there is nothing in ryzom that is new or unique (debatable about the Actions building), what make rezom unique is the polish and assimilation of the parts that they have made their own and the treatment they have given them for this setting and game. It is the sum of those differences that make ryzom unique.

I support self-help firstly.

Ryzom, potentially, has a very beautiful and intricate dancing system, rich with the flavor of Atys. This "system" isn't obvious, though. It isn't pointed out clearly in a level/skill tree. It isn't possible to macro it. It does require imagination and effort on the part of one who wishes to use it. If one doesn't want to bother with imagination and effort, then...too bad.
