Workable PvP, Can It Be Organized?

Post by skylt »

There has been endless discussion on PvP, but I haven’t seen one on how to get it going in a Community supported fashion. Lets face it, the Community is one of the biggest assets of this game, so lets protect it in the process.

There a fair number of new players trying out the game that are indicating an interest in PvP.

Down the road, Nevrax will release game improvements (think big fish). But in the meantime PvP enthusiasts can create the environment that is meaningful now. (think learning to fish for yourself) This effort will influence Nevrax to the degree that it works, holds the community together, and is fun for the participants.

Ok, so where do we start? Lets get ORGANIZED. The PvP guilds Guild Leaders can meet as an unified organization as a means of organizing, planning, and implementing activities. Without activities it is just random chaos, so lets get a lot of varied activities going. If the number of Guild Leaders involved is large, then elect an Executive Committee to lead the organization. They can take inputs from all members, and steer the organization in a way that best meets the members objectives.

Ok, so what do we do next? Plan ACTIVITIES that are fun to do, and realistic to accomplish with what is available. Also, look for those easy to accomplish things that Nevrax could do to help the implementation. We have had great support from NEVRAX, and I’m sure that if we keep it simple they will give every effort to help out if they can. Also, appoint Observers for events if there are rules that need to be followed or enforced.

What kind of activities?

LAST MAN STANDING

Takes place in the Nexus, with players entering at any Nexus entrance at the start of the event. They have 5 minutes to disperse. Then they make their way to the top of Destiny’s End. They have to get on Destiny’s End within 30 minutes (or other set time limit) without being killed or they are out of the game. They can attack each other enroute. Once on Destiny’s End the surviving players battle it out without leaving the hilltop. The Last Man Standing is the Champion. There can be only one.

To participate, players must group with an Observer who can observe their Life Stats to see who has died, and who has not. The Observers will verify which of their group members made it to the top of Destiny’s End within the time limit, and insure that they don’t leave till the winner is determined. Time warning can be broadcast in Region Chat so players don’t lose track of time limits.

LAST TEAM STANDING

Same rules as above, but with groups of eight. The ninth group position in each group is for an Observer, so that he can verify if the team met the time limit, survived, and didn’t leave the hilltop early.

ZERG WARS

This can involve 2, 3, or 4 different major player groups,
2 if it is Kami versus Karavan. (Or any other 2 way matchup)
3 if it is Kami versus Karavan versus Neutral (or any other 3 way matchup)
4 if it is Fyros versus Matis versus Tryker versus Zorai (or any other 4 way matchup)

The major groups will start at their own specified zone entrance. If 4 are involved, the fourth starts at the Kami TP.

They work their way to Destiny’s End, battle on the way, and meet at the top for the final battle. The team that can reach and hold the top against all others until the time limit is the Champion. If there are multiple teams at the top at the time limit, then Observer team counts will determine the winner.

Rezs and respawns allowed.

To make this workable, there needs to be a way to identify the teams. I suggest that Nevrax provide a choice of Name Colors when the teams enter for the event. (red, yellow, blue, green for team members and white for observers)

Chat Channels would be nice, but Teamspeak and Ventrillo could work also, but be less effective.

CAPTURE THE FLAG

If Nevrax can create Flagposts with multiple post holes and carryable Team Flags. (something large and highly visible) then this can be viable. This would be for the Nexus zone.

Teams start at their Flagpost, with their own Flag in their Flagpost. The Flagposts are situated in the North, South, East, West of Nexus. The objective is to collect the flags from opposing teams (2, 3, or 4) and mount them in their Flagpost. Teams with the most flags at the time limit wins. Unlimited Rezs and Respawns allowed.

SCHEDULED FREESTYLE PvP

Schedule set periods in Nexus for PvPs to meet and hunt each other. These would be non-observed search and kill hunts. By setting these time periods, you can concentrate the PvPers so they can enjoy “the thrill of the hunt”.

WEAPON SPECIALIZED TOURNAMENTS

These are already done from time to time, so just include them into the schedule. An Arena works well for these.

GROUP VERSUS GROUP TOURNAMENT

Groups face off against each other in an Arena, same as above.

IS THAT ALL?

Absolutely not. Come up with better ideas. These are only a sample of what may be possible. Submit them to the PvP Council, and they can select which will best meet the needs of the PvP enthusiasts, and plan out the implementation.

STAY ORGANIZED

Maintain the PvP Council and keep the events coming. Vary the types of combat. Vary the times to include as many players as possible. And make the schedule public so that all can participate, and that Non-PvPers can avoid the conflicts (if they desire), or to observe (if they wish). If you really want PvP, it works best when organized by the players themselves.

WHAT ELSE?

Involve the Film Makers. Invite them to be Observers and film the events. Post the final edited editions on web sites.

Invite non PvPers to be official Observers for the events. They may be willing to help out, and you may create interest.

PUBLICIZE EVENTS

Get the word out early, and make it readily available. Set a public calendar on a web site. (Maybe a guild will make one publicly available) List the Event Calendar web address on the Ryzom Board as a Sticky, and get the word out to PvPers and Non-PvPers alike.

Vary the event times to allow participation by the players from US/Canada, Europe, Australia/Asia.

PROTECT THE COMMUNITY

Hold down the smack talk. Keep it fairly civilized on the Ryzom Boards. If you need to do more, I suggest a dedicated PvP section on a private web site.

When PvP Events are not occurring, protect the passage of non-PvPers through PvP zones. Allow Harvesters to enjoy their dig unmolested.

If you have to fight over Supreme Zun in Umbra, then restrict the fighting to Supreme Zun Season only.

The game needs all sections of the community. Make room for each to enjoy their play time, and the game will be successful.

All good ideas, but it seems a little optimistic given the cat-like nature of any players when it comes to herding :)

All good ideas, maybe you can see even me participating in any of these events :)
