More questions! plz read

Post by aspiin »

So I left WoW and before that I played FFXI.
Left WoW b/c of personal probs and left FFXI b/c it was time consuming beyond belief.

Anyways I am a bit confused about some things so I hope you can help answer some things.

1.) Im in the US I see this game no where in stores. Where is this company from Germany? where can i buy?
2.) I read that this game is very questless, what keeps everyone on then?
3.) I also read that there is no looting system, how does the economy work if there is one?
4.) Like WoW you can solo and like FFXI you have to party to level up. How does SoR work?
5.) PvP isnt a worry of mine, I really just play mmo for the story and adventure. What is the one thing about SoR that is different from any other mmo out there?

I plan on playing as soon as i can DL the trial.

Thanks alot

Welcome Aspiin
1.) Same in Europe, the download is the full game. Just upgrade the trial account if you want to continue to the main game.
2.) The generic missions in the game isn't what makes players continue, no. The crafting is what makes people risk their lives in the wilderness, hunting or digging for better materials.
3.) The game has loot, but its in form of crafting material mostly. You'll rip out the guts of the Yubo you just killed, and use its eyes for jewellery.
4.) You can solo all the way through the game, but it takes longer time to regain health. Fighting bosses requires a team though.
5.) To me, the AI makes it feel alive. I really fell for the graphics too. And the players make me stay.

I think Nevrax is in Paris. I've never seen the game in any US stores. You can download and buy the game online.
2.) I read that this game is very questless, what keeps everyone on then?
The game is quest-less, that’s right. It is mostly PVE with the occasional Outpost PvP. There doesn't seem to be much for live events and those tend to be pretty quick and barely influence the game's story. You will hear that what keeps the players in SoR interested is the community. I have to agree since I've never encounter a mature, friendly, cooperative community in any of the MMORPG games I've played. For me what keep’s me here is the complex skill system and the beautiful environment. I get so involve and lost with my characters that I honestly feel I live in this fantasy world.

3.) I also read that there is no looting system, how does the economy work if there is one?
The economy needs some work. Although I am comfortable with the set up but that is mainly because I like to be able to sell my items to merchant and not have to depend on players to buy it. It would be nice to see more player items in the market, especially items that I cannot craft with good stats, but mostly everyone joins a guild and they provide what is needed. I think it’s safe to say that if you craft you will make money.

4.) Like WoW you can solo and like FFXI you have to party to level up. How does SoR work?
You can solo and team up to hunt. Most of the soloing I do is when I forage and craft, sometimes hunting too but its more fun when I team up with other players to bring down a named animal or agro twice my level. The trick is to know your surroundings, study how animals behave and learn to differentiate between Herbivores and other animals. You will find that an animal with the same stats of different species may not be equally strong. Warning! Stay away from those freaking Gingos.
5.) PvP isnt a worry of mine, I really just play mmo for the story and adventure. What is the one thing about SoR that is different from any other mmo out there?
To me is an amalgamation of good points. The first one is the storyline; I love the concept that makes up Atys and the sci-fi twist. The factions are interesting but the community is what makes this game gold and I think everyone will agree. Furthermore the design of the environment, each region is a world in it self and I've yet to see all of it. Lastly the skill system; it’s complex and unique enough to keep me interested for a long time.

Welcome to SoR.

I'm not sure I agree with that. In the 6 or 7 weeks I have been here, there have been 2 live events on the newbie island, and 4 or so live events on the mainland. That's about one a week. I would say that's pretty darn good for live events.

I found WoW time consuming at and around level 60

At least with this game you can play 20 hours + or less than 1 hour, it does not really matter.

One more thing...

To upgrade is it a ONE time payment of 15$?
or is it monthly payment?

The developers are in France, and the Server people (hosts + maint + support) are in England. Though it used to be available in US too, box copy, but when it first came out. When I got it. Not so much now, as it went to mostly digital download. Reason why most in the States didn't hear of its release was due to low marketing budget as I came to understand.

2. I hate quests... so their absence keeps me on :)
Joke aside, this is a sandbox style game - players create their own content by using their imagination, roleplaying aso.

3. A player driven economy works well only when all the useful items are crafted and there is no looted equivalent. However, the ryzom economy is not working too well because there is not enough decay and there aren't enough money sinks. The biggest problem though is with inflation, the npc traders are willing to buy all the junk and give good money for it.
