I've been here since 2004. I have one 250 skill. I don't grind anything. I learn something til I get bored then learn something else. Digging and crafting are my favorite skills yet I haven't reach 250 in any region or any craft. Don't want to, cause then I might burnout and be forced to find one of those other games other people are so unfond of.

I love going back to places that I've long outgrown and run missions in those regions just so I can kill those pesky ragus and cloppers that used to kill me when I was a young homin :) . I spent Sunday, all alone, in different regions discovering parts of Atys that I'd never fully appreciated because I'd never taken the time to smell the roses or the mobs growing there. Well, it was fun until that varinx herd chewed me up on the last mission :)

I log in everyday for the friends I've made from around the world especially those in my own guild. As I don't find superficial converstaion all that inciting so playing with a community of adults appeals to me.

Just don't ask them how they feel about the faction vs faction vs neutrality positions or R2 not being out or bugs not addressed or lack of content or burnout leveling skill after skill for the sake of leveling or PvP or PvE, etc. That is, if you don't want their passionate opinions on these subjects among many others :D and then you will really be missing the very best of an mmorpg, the people who care about it, passionately.

It's the community but even that is not enough of a draw to keep everyone here. There are many reasons why people both leave and stay and come back and leave again. I imagine this is true of any game where the server has not come down on it. I hope it never does.

These are my opinions, they don't have to be yours. No offense is intended and my apologies in advance if any is taken.

I won't try to say why players leave SoR, as I'm still new and in the RoS.

But for the most part, people leave MMOs because they either:

- Have accomplished everything they wanted to do
- Have maxed their character(s) out
- Are simply bored of the game and need something new
- Lost their in-game friends
- Have RL obligations that restrict them from playing
- Burned themselves out from lvling too fast\playing too much

I'm betting most of the people who've left SoR have been ones that have done all they wanted to, and are looking for something new. For any game, unless it has consistent updates to bring new content (areas, classes, whatever) people will eventually become bored with it. It's like watching the same movie over and over again. No matter how interesting it is, you'll eventually want to see something new.

But, the biggest reason people stay with MMOs is the bonds they form with other players. I know this was the #1 reason I stayed in all the MMOs I played.

I arrived in SoR Way back in Beta of .. 04? i played the entire beta and was GLUED.. then i got stuck with RL issues and couldnt even try signing for the focus. once retail came out - i had a half-assed computer and at the time, no money to speak of :P so i made a number of free trials / even kept up one account for a couple months but never got to play really since i couldnt pay for it myself.

then finally one fine day a very anxious homin ripped open an envelope, pulled out a credit card, and subbed / downloaded that very day :p

i've been here from the begining (sorta) and i plan on bieng here at the end :) the community, the exotic world, even the PvP (turning off region is magical :p ) for a neutral player - all keep me glued. did i say community yet? COMMUNITY is my number 1 reason for sticking around - and why i could never leave :)

-i think its those ppl that play the game and expect immediate awards for what they are doing that leave. i myself have no skills at 200 yet - i'm almost at 200 dig (25 lvls to go!) and my others are all 160 and lower. i can't grind any one lvl - and i never get bored b/c if i dont feel like leveling, i'll steal my lovely Ela and we'll run to the deserted Virginia falls and enjoy each others company all night :p

so yea, for all of you that have left - you'd better come back for R2! no more of those annoying whines of 'no one runs events' - b/c then you won't have excuses for having an event - you can set one up your own damn self :P (or like me just join others... *prods Kos, Jyudas, Zahan* )

There was a big event yesterday. :p

As for me...there's nothing in the game that would make me leave. I can't get tired of the grind because I simply don't grind. I can't feel like I've experienced everything there is, because even after fourteen months I learn and see new things every day. The only way I'd leave is if I burned out for inexplicable psychological reasons.

If there was a big event yesterday then why is it not lasting afew day's like Episode 2 did and also the Kippe invasion that was about 1 1/2 year's that lasted like 2 week's which was very buggy.

I haven't really ever left SoR, mostly due to my friends IG and now IRL.

If I were to leave game, I can give you a few reasons why.

-First off, the old community seems dead to me, almost. PvP in SoR has truely changed the people here into the worst. And just being in a certain guild automatically seems to give others a reason to insult you (general you).

-Secondly, content. R2 seems completely pointless imo, I dont gain anything from it. It doesn't do anything for me really. What am I to do after 250? I love elemental, but I cant level it anymore. I can pretty much only use it in PvP, and well..*see next dash*

-PvP just isn't that fun to me. It malicious, usually gets hateful. It hard to find "fun" pvp anymore. I, personally, do not like being called names because I (A) beat you in PvP, or (B) You won and think that gives you the right to gloat.

-And, then there is just total immersion into the game. I almost cancelled my sub at one of the OP battles because I got so mad that I was beating up my computer monitor. To get that angry and what not at a video game, is truly idiotic. Time for a break, eh?

On another note, I think people also leave because they tire of "the grind." So, i recommend, not powerleveling. I've been playing for almost a year, i have only 1 level at 250-AoD because I love nuking. I have slowly leveled my heal and melee above 200. My forage is still below 230. I'm just slow. I say, take your time when you grind. Enjoy it, don't rush it. Dont get angry when you cant get a team to level with, sit around and talk (I do). Open Universe chat to help people.

Anyway, there is my two cents.

Episode II was just that, a story Episode, and that lasted a few months.

I appreciate the responses!

In another thread, someone mentioned there were no quests or loot rewards on the mainland? Is this true?

If true, I assume some % of players don't care for this. I'm also trying to imagine a game where most of the activity is exploration. If handled properly, this could be really good if you goal is to see new sights in an exotic land. It had better be a big land to explore. :)

Can any loot be found on mobs or laying around the country side? Or is it all based on player crafts? In WoW, one thing that drove me absolutely batty was the fact that the best loot came off mobs. I spent a huge amount of time becoming an armorsmith yet I only wore one piece I made. In WoW the really good stuff comes off drops usually in raid dungeons. Pocessing loot became an end in itself and it was not for me.

All the best gear is crafted, with the exception of ONE super-hard boss who drops an armor set, I believe.
