Ok, I got it up and running...for a couple minutes =/. I picked the new character slot screen, clicked create or w/e. Then it crashes. Why me?!?!

Sorry, wish I could be more help, but not sure what the client is doing at this point. There's a sticky thread herethat talks about the real-time help/chat tool klients, I'd recommend you jump on there and chat with Zerlin or one of the other GMs.

Could be heat, could be drivers, could be RAM.

Make sure your drivers are cleanly installed (removing the old ones and rebooting your system, ignoring 'found hardware' message and then running the installer)

Make sure all fans and fins are dust free and the fans rotate smoothly.

Test out your RAM by downloading memtest from http://www.memtest.org

Change your game password. That fixed it for me.
