Hi!
I am looking for a guide on crafting. I have read the player-made guide forum but the stuff there is way old (2004 or so). balisticmystix is down so I cannot look there.
I have read things about race-based crafting and I am starting to worry since I had no idea there would be such limitations before creating a character. I'm sure a guide would explain that in details.
And I also don't really know where to start
If you know anywhere to find one I would be grateful.
If you have any tip to give me I would be too.
Crafting guides?
Re: Crafting guides?
Well im not sure if there is a guide for crafting, plus im not sure wat questions you may have so perhaps we will turn this thread into a template for a crafting guide that i or someone else could write up and have made a sticky
To start with your initial fear of racial limitations, dont worry every race can craft every other races gear and equipment. All you need to do is visit that land and go to their respective trainers. However this can be costly for skill points so it is really something which you can get after lvl 100 in a craft, unless you grind up another craft solely for skill points in order to buy all the plans for your main craft, many people do this. Generally there is no limitations in ryzom when rolling a character.
so please ask away

Re: Crafting guides?
Ok that's a start.
First I would liek to start a Weapon Crafting Career. Here are some questions I have:
1)Are my mats, to create weapons, solely found on creatures? Or do I have to harvest as well? Or CAN I Harvest as well?
2)I am a level 50 Fighter killing Kipees on the newbie island right now. My mats are lvl 35-40. My crafting skill is under 10. Should I use those lvl 35 mats? Or find lower lvl ones?
3) How do I know which mats I need? I have a good sword and probably are going to only make weapons to raise my skill, so I do nt care about stats.
4)Should I put every single weapon I make to sell to players? Or is that just going to spam the seller's window for nothing?
I wouldn't want to waste important amounts of cash, but if it is going to be negligible I would rather not clutter vendors.
**EDIT*
5)How do I know what to hunt to get specific parts? Like if I want grip or blade?

Re: Crafting guides?
Creatures or harvesting. you will want beaks and claws in place of shell for blades/points. bones and mandibles in place of bark for shafts. skin (not leather) in place of fiber for grips. pelvis in place of node for counterweight/hammer. the first is the looted critter mat, the second is the dug equivalent ( i use the term equivalent very loosely ).azziane wrote:1)Are my mats, to create weapons, solely found on creatures? Use up your mats on crafting. You can always use higher level mats, no problem. Generally I use up my lowest level mats first just in case I level past their max xp effectiveness.azziane wrote:2)I am a level 50 Fighter killing Kipees on the newbie island right now. See above.azziane wrote:3) How do I know which mats I need? I have a good sword and probably are going to only make weapons to raise my skill, so I do nt care about stats.
No, I would sell to the NPC, not other players right now. As you develop your skills and can buy the HP bonuses up to the same q as the weapon, you may want to craft a few for sale (using better materials hopefully). But generally, grind and sell to the npc. There are 2 buttons at the bottom of the sell window after you select the item you want to sell. Pick the one that just sells to the NPC.azziane wrote:4)Should I put every single weapon I make to sell to players? Or is that just going to spam the seller's window for nothing?
EDIT: What to hunt - well, that's a little of trial and error. Most of the agro mobs are good for weapons crafting. najabs, kipee, gingo, torbak. They drop the shafts and claws. Skin is from the herbivore types, and doesn't drop as often as the agro mob mats. pelvis, I think from herbivore types.
Hope that helps!

Re: Crafting guides?
All good tips these guys are giving you... I want to throw in that you can also buy mats (generic if player mats are too pricey, harder to find at highest levels but always there early on typically) to supplement your hunting. Once you decide to make good stuff, your gonna have to dig in the right spots or hunt with folks able to take down bosses.
Until your trees branch and you can get more SP, avoid the stat bonuses... when you CAN make better stuff you should have the SP to get those skills

Re: Crafting guides?
Excelent info thanks very much. If you don't mind I have a couple more questions:
1)Does HP bonus level 2 require you to have HP bonus level 1? Because I learned HP bonus level 1 and realized that it was not quite worth the 40 points since I am sell it all to the NPC Not a huge deal for 40 points I guess, but I'd like to know for the future.
2)I have been hunting herbivores to get counterweights and grips for 3 hours now and they really don't drop much. Would you think Harvesting to be faster for those mats?

Re: Crafting guides?
Well, DT didn't actually say anything about it, but a BIG part of crafting is harvesting, and he wrote an excellent guide for harvesters. Its linked in his siggy, or you can find it here.
I know BM is having problems with their web host right now, but don't give up on them, their sitehas tons of info about Ryzom and I'm sure they'll get it sorted out (spoiler alert!! Their site has TONS of information about Ryzom, maybe more than you want to see!)
Also, this siteis another good resource for info....
Don't think anyone has actually written a crafting guide yet, probably because crafters are a secretive lot, alwyas afraid someone will steal their best recipes!

Re: Crafting guides?
Ryzom's skill system is always progressive so no, you cannot learn HP Boost 2 without learning HP Boost 1 first. Digging can be very slow to begin with but gradually it will become far easier to acquire grinding mats by digging than by hunting. Herbivores, especially, yield very few materials. Any raw materials that you don't need for your own crafting, Sell to Players at the merchants. As long as you don't mark their price up high, someone will likely be pleased to find them and buy them.
Re: Crafting guides?
Digging will yield you guaranteed mats for your crafting, while hunting you will get a mix, or not as much as you had hoped for. So, most crafts spend hours digging for minutes of crafting.

Re: Crafting guides?
If I could add another question to the discussion:
How do you enchant a weapon? Do you do it when crafting? An extra option?. I can create sap crystals but I've no idea what to dowith them yet as I havn't seen an enchanted weapon. I'm still on the starter island btw.
