I ended up creating a Matis character. For me the looks of my character are very important, and it goes first while creating it. The Matis was the coolest
So soon, or at some point in the feature I will choose a side. And I have thought about it the last day(s). I kinda like the Kami side more than the Karavan side. Their lore and objectives fit me better. So I was wondering. Should I even bother to try to align with the Kami? Since I'm a Matis my fame with them isn't the best at default, and it is "normal" for my race to choose the Karavan.
So if I really want it, is it worth it? Risk vs reward. Would it be bad for my character (I loose to much)? What would I loose if I choose the Kami?
Also, I'm not a very hardcore player. I'm not going to play that much. Will I ever achieve something with the Kami if I don't play that much? Since I start with negative fame. I don't know how fast you gain fame.
Is one of the factions better than the other? Are the Kami better if you prefer magic? Or does the Karavan also have options for that? Thinking about reward and similar stuff.
Alot of questions, sorry. Hope it's ok
thx

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
it would probably be best to move and set up home in a kami land - fyros/zorai though, as when your kami fami is higher than kara the respawns swap over, and same with town tp's later on.
but if you can live with that then you can still stay in Yrk, there are some who do i believe.

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
Well it is pretty rare to find those two combined (ah, the old days), but there are no definitive reasons to shy away from it... SoR is definately something where you choose your own path;while it might be tough to get there, if its what you want to do then I'd go for it
One word of warning though, there are no established guilds that are aligned to both Matis and Kami - this means that you probably won't be able to gain Matis citizenship, but since "birthrace" and citizenship are unconnected there's nothing stopping you staying race-neutral or even aligning with another race
Beyond the TPs you can buy and a few faction areas, theres no quantifiable difference between Kami and Karavan, so I can't really answer your questions about "risk vs reward" - its purely up to your preference from the lore, which TPs you're going to end up with, and which side you are "likely" to end up on in OP battles (tho again, SoR's freedom means there's nothing stopping you showing up on the side of a Karavan guild defending against a Kami attack, or vice versa )
Oh, and no need to apologise for asking questions; thats what this forum is for

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
If you only chose Matis for looks thats fine, but then worrying about faction alignment doesn't make much sense. You can be whatever you like, but why so much thought on changing factions and betraying your forefathers ?
As Kye mentioned above, there are other traitors to their race that will help you to the dark side

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
I think you might play a minoroty, as kami matis, but don't let you get that to you. It could be quite a challenge to do.
And like somebody already said, there are a few more who do that, so you are not completely alone out there.
(And welcome to Atys ofcourse!)

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
There are more who joined the 'dark side' than they would have you believe. Seti, Heavanor, Lillaryn, and Praha to name but a few, and thats only from the Infinity ranks. To be honest, your civ allegiance has yet to play a major part of the game and as such, tends to be less important that faction. Just pick what you want to.vguerin wrote: As Kye mentioned above, there are other traitors to their race that will help you to the dark side

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
You were talking about citiznship and choosing a side, kami or karavan.
Well if I choose Kami, and choose citizenship with Fyros (I am also a Matis), would I one day be able to revoke my citizenship with Fyros and go Matis again?
Also, would I be able to leave Kami and swear alligence to Karavan. Or would I have to stick with what I have chosen?

Re: Matis + Kami = Not worth it?
You can indeed change, but not over and over - the fame would probably become hard to reverse and you might even end up with negative fame for both sides
As well as that, if you switch from Kami to Karavan or vice versa, there are some who might view you as a "traitor", but its perfectly possible if you have the determination
