Learning up on the game while it downloads - 35min and counting - and I have a few concerns and questions before I get my hopes up on Saga.
1)Solo, Duo, Group or Raid?
2)How tedious is crafting? How necessary is crafting? Is there a player run economy?
3)One of the downfalls listed on MMORPG.com was the lack of sound and music. Has this been improved?
4)1st person view?
5)Customizeable UI?
6)Does all your equipment graphically show? Do people have the same cookie cutter look like in EQ2?
7)Is it relatively easy to take part in the special events that take place, or are they remote and quick so as only a segment of players gets to see them?
Looking forward to learning about Ryzom and meeting all of the homins therein. I expect to approach this experience as a friendly, chatty, adventurous gal and hope to find some kindred spirits!

Concerns and Questions after doing some research
Re: Concerns and Questions after doing some research
Most hunting is done duo or in groups around 3 but can go to 9ishellywick wrote:Learning up on the game while it downloads - 35min and counting - and I have a few concerns and questions before I get my hopes up on Saga.

crafting is a hard tree but not needed, i dont craft and im still rich
Cant comment on sound as i always turn it off in any game
there is a first person option (press v) but not ever used it
yea you can change the UI
Well there is different disigns but things can look rubish but have amazing stats, they dont sparkle extra if their good sadly
there are a few player events but not alot, joining a RP guild can help as theirs always alot more going on, contact kostika ingame im sure she will tell you of all the event she has planned
welcome to ryzom if you need anything ingame or want a chat send me a tell

1) Solo, Duo, Group and Raid
2) Depends... can be a grind at times, but also always interesting to find out new recipes...
3) Again, depends. I do not miss continuous "airport music". There's music when you enter the capital cities, and there's always ambient sound which I like much better than any music...
4) Yes, if you like to
5) Within limits, yes. You can arrange the window layout, and you can have four different "desktop setups".
6) Jewelry doesn't show (yet?). You can customise your avatar's body and face, and there's a multitude of armour combinations (although there could always be more... )
7) Most official events are in public places, location and date are posted here on the forums or at the Saga site.
Besides, there's tons of information on the game and on the lore.
Hope to help, and welcome to Atys, giant plant extraordinaire!
Re: Concerns and Questions after doing some research
Hey there ellywick, welcome to the Bark.
Let 's see if I can help you out a bit with these questions.
1) The majority of the game is certainly team oriented, but soloing and duoing are certainly not unheard of. It is all just up to the skill you are trying to use. Raiding .... may be a bit unheard of or at least it certainly won' t be the same as in other games.
2) Tediousness of crafting can be felt in three cases; either at lower levels but due to the very slow gathering of materials (if you have someone providing materials for you it should be a walk in the park though) if you don' t keep your foraging skill on par; the higher levels or the type of crafting you picked. Usually Master jewelers lost most of their sanity, so be weary of hysterically laughing madmen offering trinckets and shiny baubles; they' re really wondering how good your eyeballs would look in their newest creation.
3) Enviromental sounds are mindblowing if you ask me, but soundtracks are limited indeed; and honstly I' m pretty glad it is. I always wondered why symphonic orchestras seemed to follow you around throughout your adventures in other games. Should you feel the need to have some music in the background however, then there' s the built in mp3 player for you.
4) The way you view the game is up to you, from 1st person to 3rd person.
5) Very customizable UI; I bet no two users use exactly the same set-up.
6) Not every little piece of equipment shows, jewelry for instance is not shown on the character; other than that, what you have equiped is shown. It' s practically inevitable some people' s character will look like someone else' s at some point, but rarely. Most types of equipment and even more so the clothing and armors are individually interchangable, leaving you with a wide choice of combinations to customize looks if you can meet the item' s requirments. Keep in mind though that while in those rare cases some people may look alike on terms of equipment it certainly won' t mean they have the same items; the skins of the items are not fixed to statistics of the item.
7) Fairly easy I' d say; it' s really hard to miss a big lead-up event, but there' s smaller events that may be unanounced where you' d just have to be the right homin at the right time at the right place; these happen pretty regularly as well. The best thing about these events is that skill levels hardly matter; every additional soul is a helping hand. Word of advice however is to keep an eye on the Saga forum or the Atys' Chronicles webpage as there' s a lot of info on events to be found there.
(someone really ought to poke some heads to spread more word on the server itself though; surely can' t hurt )
Happy patching, and I hope you get to sample some of these things yourself soon.
Cheers.
