First off, lemme say that I completely agree that staying on noob island until you are 30 or even 20 in everything or even just your skill tree of choice is completely unnessasary, however you spell unnessacary.
My first character was a Matis (God knows
why...
) and I was completely turned off by the ppl I heard talking on the region chat in newb island; stuff to the effect of:
"Oh, the mainland is sooooo hard. I can't believe I had to reroll!"
"Don't leave here until you are 30 in everything."
"You need at least 100k to go to the mainland."
"You will die and not be able to respawn ever if you go to the mainland."
Okay, so I made that last one up. At any rate, I was extremely bored there, and went over to mainland as soon as I thought it would be safe; I dunno, 20 something in melee and some foraging levels. I didn't really have much trouble when I got to mainland. Sure, I died (but I was able to respawn), and sometimes it was frustrating, but not really. I did end up rerolling, but that was more b/c I was bored with my character and didn't really like him much, rather than b/c I was feeling defeated, which I was not at all. I was not having trouble leveling up at all.
But I just wasn't having a lot of fun.
gecker wrote:Wel I decided to stay in Tryker Noobtown much longer than I did in the last beta. I did hit 50 in forage. The interesting thing is that there's lots of q50 mission mats in noobtown. So it was a nice way for me to get fame/dap/xp from completing missions and to level up pretty quickly to 50. And those missions were challenging. It was interesting how far I had to go to actually find some of the mission mats. Good experience for the mainland.
And this is the point where this post becomes a blatant plug for Tryker Noobtown. I love it.
I've spent way more time there than I ever intended, not b/c I feel I'm not ready to go to the mainland, but b/c I can't tear myself away. The people are great. The money's easy. I'm comfy. I will move eventually, but I am enjoying myself, so why go yet?
I think my point is, whatever. You don't
need to stay in noobland if you're comfortable leaving. And you don't need to leave by a certain level if you're comfortable hanging around.
Do what you want. It's a game.
