cheating as is checking your landmarks that you have collected before the scavenger hunt or cheating like cheking it up from open/accessible for all database ?
which one is more fair ?
BM/raum/mine ;-) /etc sites are great, because they fill the hole Nevrax has left ingame.

treasure/scavenger hunt is more about giving clues/hints, not just "go fetch me 10 prime giant pearls". new player is "a what, there is pearls in game ?" while old vet is running back with "loot" already.

I'm thinking treasure-hunt type events are best done using players as the treasure - that way the BM site wouldn't help at all, as I'm sure you could create some location-based or not-so-unique-landmark based hints :)

I have to admit, data sites could cause problems with R2 content - I'd be miffed if I spent several days building a big scenario, only to see a 'walkthrough' posted that exposes every detail :) Can we get a written guarantee from BM that this won't happen? :)

I cant speak for Rakujitsu , Oshido , Danadita and Aylwyne (the BM website team) , but I do know from experience (with Rites mission info) that they have no intention of posting walk-throughs on the actual site , whether that gets posted in a forum (any forum not just BM's) is a different matter and alot harder to control

I agree Pete, and I think including "SPOILER" in a thread title is enough to avoid any unwanted surprises and cater for those of us with *some* self control :) Raku and the guys are pillars of the Ryzom community too, so I'm sure they have the best intentions :)

Another thought that jsut popped into my head as I read this is that they may not be allowed to. We as players don't know what rules they have to running events. It may not be a lack of knowledge of the NPC they're playing but a lack of rules allowing them to fully interact with us in free conversation. Just a thought.

Of course I agree more loose conversation or at least acknowledging our questions would be good. But again I think that's improving. When I ran into Rehn recently in Dyron it didn't feel scripted to me and seemed like normal conversation.

Back to Topic , I do try to RP and will attempt to make an IC reponse if someone else starts , often tho im thrown off if someone starts to talk in Ye Olde English or if im on a Female char (I do have one lol) and they start to talk about how nice my Makeup is (was that you Jamela ? -Evil!!!) . Some of us RP n00bs need alittle more gentle handling and coaxing into it , also I find it realy frustrating when threads in the Saga area keep getting contaminated (as Katriell posted) by game mechanic / obviously OOC posts but I guess thats something we have to live with in a mixed access forum :/

On a postive note tho , the recent Evo event seemed to go down realy well (missed it myself unfortunately) and I think thats the best way to get more ppl involved in RP -sweeten it with some "real" objectives/content

A point to remember I think, is that not everyone would actually want to be involved in RP, but may well be interested in attending events - even just for the 'social' side. Again, you have a situation where OOC comments could easily (and most probably will) contaminate the RP - I honestly don't think that can be avoided. From both sides, we should ensure that people don't get locked into a faction-style disagreement - resulting in events strictly for RPers, and events strictly for non-RPers - effectively ruining the game for both parties :)

*chuckle* :) I can just imagine it now... the non-RPers sneaking up and exclaiming "It's not the Emperor, it's just a guide, and IRL they work for Royal Mail!!1!one". In retaliation, the RPers jump out of the bushes shouting "For the love of Jena, the Kitin are coming! Gather up the women and children, save yourselves!"

:D Sorry it's Friday and I really CBA @ Work :)

Most players do roleplay to one extent or another. I try to roleplay 100% in Around, Region, and Karavan chat, to some success. However, I'll admit that I do sometimes get drawn into the smack talking that surrounds PVP events and activities.

What I find best about roleplay on Atys is that the majority of players are easily influenced to partake in "in-character" conversations. Roleplaying is like a flu that spreads from one person to the next with continuous exposure. :) Whether your characters are an extension of yourself or a completely different entity, just keep at it and sooner than later staying in character will become second nature.

*Raku waves his hand* This isn't the spoiler site you're looking for

We've been labelled a spoiler site before... we still hold to the idea that we are a FAN site first and foremost. Much Ryzom love was spent building the website and despite the contributions from the BM web team and MANY of the Ryzom community the site covers less than 30% of Atys.

Sites and guides written by players (everyone still uses DT's harvest primer) are there out of love for the game. A means to share one's experience.
Spoiler sites don't kill games, games kill games!

I'll admit that our maps did change the experience for me a bit. After processing over 300 mats pics one weekend for a region by one contributer I felt I knew the region even though I never been there. But I think my experience is unique because of my intimatcy with the data (love the data!).

I'll also admit that I'm addicted to Thottbott - once you're able to get a feel for what's junk and what's useful, it's became hard for me to not have it loaded up when I play *that* game.

I don't believe our website hinders RP. But I'm bias. I'm not a big RP'er but I try to follow story and try to think of my character as an independant entity thats affected by his environment ("it takes a village"). If I catch him inventing a method of connecting to our website to find out where Daï-Den or Pyr is, I'll smite him.
