Interresting.
A similar thread in the German forum, where someone asked for new XMas toys only contains "Oh, *please*, spare us with all that XMess stuff - it doesn't fit onto Atys and anyway I'm allready fed up with XMess decorations allready from all the stores!" - replys.
The general feedback is, that everyone is pretty fed up with all that commercialisation going on everywhere in Germany since september/october each year. I wonder what's the reason for this, I mean - where are German players different than you?
I myself don't care too much, especially if the season goodies look cool and or funny.
And anyway: My first MMORPG was AC1, and that was full of stuff like that. Actual Snowmen (no, not Yetis but those you made when you were kids) that throw Snowballs in the winter, Scarecrows that throw burning pumpkins for Helloween, later you could cut the heads off from certain mobs and let them be crafted into a mask, next year saw full body costumes (a city full of Skeletons, Virindi and suchlike).
The "eastereggs" there where nice too: During one period a few players turned up in the forums claiming they saw, in the middle of nowhere like a forest or another lonely spot, a certain blue oldfashioned police box that usually vanished after a while, making weird noises. This happened only a few times and most of us thought it was a kind of hoax from those players at the beginning, but then actually some screenshots of the TARDIS came up...
(For unenlightened ones: there's a certain BBC series called "Doctor Who" in which the protagonist travels through time and space in a certain blue oldfashioned police box that, on the inside, is much larger than on the outside, the TARDIS). And for Douglas Adams' Birthday certain golems suddenly dropped Towels you could wear...
*sigh*
