Well, based on that, I'll stick with the world map we're using ;)

There's probably no real meaning to this layout. More than likely, it's just an artifact of how the overall coordinate space works in the game and not so much a representation of the actual spatial relationships between lands. The world map they present in the game actually makes a fair amount of sense as far as how the portals line up.

I agree, which is why I didn't bother posting it before now. It also fails in regard to the lore as the Matis are supposed to be in a position to block the Tryker--->Fyros trade route, which would be implausible given these relative positions.
It is probably easier to assume that the compass "doesn't work" over large distances (even if it is consistant).

It's because the portals between lands cause disturbances in the magical field of Atys which make the compass point in the wrong direction. (I assume the compass work on a magic field because a magnetic field like Earth's would require metal.) The field lines coming from the Witherings are all consistantly bend in such a way that, viewing from the Verdant Heights, they appear to be coming from the east. ;)

Yep, taking the different regions and pasting portal ends to eachother makes a pretty consistant map considering the prime root regions are underground (and also leads me to conclude that digging straight down in Lands of Umbra would end you up in Wastelands). With the exception that Underspring isn't even large enough to run all the way from the northern tip of the Desert to the southern end, let alone further south into the jungle.

Wow! those are incredibly awesome maps! I love how double-clicking on the searched location or tribe takes you directly to the spot. Fantastic!

P.S. I have half a dozen bandit tribes that are not on your maps, some with screenshots, to add.

Awesome job once again. I had a quick play last night and was amazed at how fast everything updated compared to the previous system. I may have missed this option, I will play some more later, but is there a toggle to turn on all resource spots on a given map area once you have zoomed in? I didn't spot it if there is but then again it was 2am :)

No, not currently. I went for a purely search based approach to resource fields and mobs on the global map. This is mainly due to the sheer quantity of items. The things tied to the toggle buttons are all preloaded with the page because they're fairly limited in quantity.

You should be able to pull up all of the resource fields in a region with a basic search like:

resource craft fount

Notice that I included 'craft' in the keywords. This was to find all crafting resources (as opposed to mission resources). Similarly, "resource fount not mission" would work.

One thing I want to do is create a list of useful searches. One category of these could be these resource field searches for each region. I want to make these searches accessible through a menu type system on the page. But that's in the "soon(tm)" list of features.

I've also toyed with the idea of having it dynamically pull the items from the db based on your current view. That just gets a little tricky because I don't want to start trying to pull down all resource fields if you're on the world view and I don't want to start making it really laggy when you're trying to pan and zoom.

could we get a list of keywords that can be used in the search? like 'resource' 'craft' 'excellent' things like that. Just because some of us are a bit stupid, especially after 4 hours of digging :p

I just did a raw dump of all the terms in the keywords and put it at the bottom of the map help page:

map help

I'll work on refining this some to put all of the keywords that are just names of NPCs, tribes, etc. at the bottom as they're probably not as useful for what you're really looking for.

The way the search works is, it matches substrings. So if you type in 'kara', that would match 'karavan' and 'karavia' (as in 'karavia square'). Currently, there's no way to match a whole term but that's something I want to add. I'm planning on doing that like most search engines where you put the term in quotes.
