I may not be the biggest fan of outright PvP, but I dream of a world where you can attack anyone or heal anyone. Have it be your choice. Faction numbers should pick which guards help you and where you stand in events, but you should be able to establish peace or war whereever you want.
This type of system makes it all the sweeter when peace is established and makes for much more interesting banter among guildmates/peers. There may always be 'gankers' and others who disturb such peace, however as a community we can dela with those on our own.
I'm writing this partially because I'm bored at work, but mainly because I want other people to want this idea too. Since it makes logical sense I hope that its truth is persuasive enough. It's like the article I read linked from msnbc yesterday... Mario doesn't rape the princess because he's not given the choice. The only option he has is to jump on Bowser's head rather than become his #1 man. If you force the gamer to do something then how can you reward them for it.
Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
Re: Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
I like PvP within the context of short, meaningful events. If they're rewarded then other events, appealing to other play styles, should be equally and similarly rewarded.
Within those events I want the freedom to act as I choose, to pick sides, to heal or to kill according to my desires at the time, depending on the situation.
An MMO shouldn't be a straight line tunnel plot. There needs to be room for choice and manoeuvre.

Re: Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
If you're referring to simply making PvP events and zones where you can attack or heal anyone regardless of faction, then I completely agree. I've never liked the artificial restrictions imposed with the FvF system. It doesn't allow for interesting things like spies and traitors nor does it allow for the simple act of mercy on your 'enemy' or a truce where you work together.
If you're proposing that everywhere be open PvP, then I'd have to disagree.
If someone is particularly bad, then yes, people may group together and seek retribution, however, that's usually a short term thing and the next day the person is right back at it.
I think the only way to attempt a fully open PvP system is have the game mechanics act as the police and invoke the punishment. That's not to say players can't also get involved but I don't think you can rely on the playerbase to be the exclusive enforcers.

I feel that this is a major misconception with regards to open PvP systems. The main problem being that most people don't want to spend their game time policing other players. They end up just saying, "forget it" and going their own way. This leaves the troublemakers free to keep doing what they're doing.swe999 wrote:There may always be 'gankers' and others who disturb such peace, however as a community we can dela with those on our own.

This will never work, because it's imposible. There isn't any consequences from bad action in the game, when it's done with rules. There is always victims and casualties, notting what other people can do for it.swe999 wrote:This type of system makes it all the sweeter when peace is established and makes for much more interesting banter among guildmates/peers. Basicly sayed: In real life You can arrest criminal and but them in the prison, this prevent same person doing the crime again. In games You can't do anyting like that, You can only turn You self to same kind of criminal. What is what the criminals wanted in first place. (Criminal in here is killer).
Re: Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
So do I...What i would like to see is "if it feels good"..do it, but then if you are a naughty homin (or womin) then you have to become an outlaw and aren't allowed in cities and towns (apart from rough ones) and gangs of vigilantes hunt you down because you are a horrid criminal, but then the vigilantes get into trouble for killing a criminal but then you are allowed to be deputised by the city guards and then you get drafted (because you are in the city guard) to go away and fight kitin and then your NPC wife runs off with another homin while you are away and you track him down and hack out his throat (and all the homins on your street gossip about the murderer they used to live next to) then you get sent to an atysian gulag for life but break out and become an outlaw and gangs of vigilantes hunt you down because you are a hor......swe999 wrote:I dream of a world where you can attack anyone or heal anyone. Re: Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
Gankers get bored and leave...and people that are mean would probably get KoS and NoRez status placed on them by guilds. I like the idea of freedom in the FvF zones and not necessarily everywhere. Ganked isn't so bad for a high level... but its really aggravating for a newbie.
Hello
Re: Total Freedom Pseudo PvP?
Ow, a kill-whatever-you-want game ? ...
considering incoming change... it would be a special "unlockFvF-flag" so you'll be seen as blue dot (or dark-green?), but could carnage your side or heal other side ?
...
Would that mean, to sum up, that you'd allow pvp/fvf-content if you're allowed freedom to switch faction whenever you want instead of having to work on fame ?
