Talking of fresh and innovative:
We did just meet the rulers of the 4 races this weekend. Them and their underlings did interact with us on some level. We did have an event where everyone sat around patiently while guild representatives had their say. We did have an invasion where our efforts during the week had a result.
The game didn't launch with a war already in place (WoW) or take 2 years to get round to a lamo cold war (EVE). Our decisions will affect the outcome. We do have a lot of freedom. Outposts are being done a bit differently to pure PVP and PVE outposts haven't been ruled out.
We are getting R2 next year.
Is this normal in other MMORPGs currently released?
Matrix-online seems like it's doing similar things event-wise, but that has so much money behind it. It too is innovative (and sadly it bored the hell out of me in beta).

vutescu wrote:Some maths here: if they lose 50% customers but win 50% leet kids, from any side you look, there will be 50% more sales of the game. So Nevrax loses... let's say 1000 customers who only pay the monthly fee, but they wins 1000 customers that pays the monthly fee AND buy the game. Sry, but that's a profit.
Huh....I never bought the game.....I downloaded it, played for two weeks free and then started paying the monthly fee. Lose 500 customers who are paying monthly fee and gain 500 customers, who will start paying after their two week trial = two weeks of no income x 500 peeps by math. Sorry but that is a significant income loss
Not to mention the fact that half those new peeps will drop after 2 week trial. Again, that is far from a profit. Not to mention allt eh soft costs involved in creating 500 new pay accounts..
Re: Nevrax....What if they gave a war and nobody came ?
Again, with defernce to Anissa, yes there are guilds who are into this sort of thing.....however they are in the minority. Here;'s what I see happening. PvP inclined folks will gravitate to the few guids atjhat are interested in thsis ort of thing. They will bash each others heads in attacking each other for a few weeks until the pecking order becomes establsihed.
Then they will go out and start on the guilds thta declared themselves nuetral but wish to have outposts. These nuetrals, not interested in this type of game play, will form an alliance which the following mantra.
"Leave us alone....if you attack one of our member guilds, we will all in force take you out." There are two possible outcomes:
1. Judging from recent events, I judge this to be the more likely and eventually, the aggressive guilds will "get it" that they can't stand up to the majority who don't want to be bothered with FvF and GvG and declare a truce with known nuetrals. Now what ?
2. The neutrals will get tired of the whole thing and find something else to play.
There's a third change coming which will be the creation of a macro in response to "wanna hunt" request......."Sorry I gotta go dig for 12 hours to earn enough money to hire npc's to defend our guuild outpost.....the Lords of Destruction Guild will eb attacking us for the 24th time tommorrow."
The whole PvP scenario becomes workable for all sides with two simple changes.
A. Make it so Outposts may be Factional (Kami / Karavan), Nuetral or Independent (I wannna fight w/ everybody). Neutrals could have the option of staged PvP events such as "war games" with a friendly guild or even open conflict. But to engage in open conflict, an offer for war would have to made AND accepted.
B.1 Provide a significant penalty for killing neutrals in PvP/FvF whatever areas
or
B.2 Rotate combat zones so that all players will have access to explore, dig, make cave paintings, whatever in all araes of the game. If a player goes into an area when it is a "hot zone", he can be killed without penalty. But since he can go into that same area when it is not "hot", he gives up nothing but the convenience of avoiduing that zone on Thursday and going anytime between Friday and Wednesday.
I can't see any objection for the non PvP crowd
I can't understand any objection from the Pro PvP crowd.
I can't see how this would be difficult for Nevrax.
I do see how this would place Nevrax in a unique position of providing "family" entertainment where parents and siblings could play a game which encouraged cooperation rather than bashing each other in the head with pointy sticks.
And finally, Nevrax's claim to fame was the Raid engine......Raids are the most fun I have ever had in game and for the life of me I can't remember when I last participated in one....maybe ther was one during that 5 day vacation I took back in early summer.

Re: Nevrax....What if they gave a war and nobody came ?
RAID engine is broken... the last time they fired it up the servers crashed. Its on the list to be fixed but Outposts, PvP and the KK War come first...
I'm with you, the Kitin Invasion was the best fun (outside of my first trek) I've had in game. People complained that it lasted too long and too much effort was involved to get a medicore reward (well, you got to complain about something!). I have yet to get the strength to use my reward!! We had MOTD that alerted you to the event, NPC's to interact with for story background and hints, tasks that involved harvestors, crafters as well as mages and warriors. We were fighting kitin! Best of all, we were leveling without even noticing. The only disappointment was it ended with a quick bang, the final battle seemed unrelated to the core of the event (two boss mobs dead, you won, even if you never secured the outposts prior). And then it was over. Back exactly as it was, except for a few npc's that wandered around until the next server reset.
Ahhh.. the good ol' days. Talking to JM at the IRL Gathering you walked away thinking that those days will be had again. Soon (tm). But the RAID engine is still in the shop.

Re: Nevrax....What if they gave a war and nobody came ?
Yes, imo, throughout the development of this game the raids have got progressively less fun. Just need to revert to the original idea of there being no safe haven from the raid; if you don't support the town guards, they die, and it plays merry hell with everyone's game who wants to use that town... that was a raid style that /meant/ something if you ask me. Bring back the old days if you want fun raids.

Re: Nevrax....What if they gave a war and nobody came ?
the thing I liked best about the Invasion.. was that it took place over about 3 days, so even players from non peak timezones could participate - even if they couldnt be in at the finale. These recent events with a couple of hours leadup and the actual event being staged (maybe taking an hour and a half ? ) at european and american peaktime leave anyone else completely out in the cold. I realise there arent enough of us for an event of our own, but all this story development, player events, etc etc etc... is just announcements in the forums of stuff we are missing out on.dc77066 wrote:RAID engine is broken... the last time they fired it up the servers crashed. Huh? They are giving the game away for free now? Is THAT bad? Are they sinking THAT fast?jared96 wrote:Huh....I never bought the game.....I downloaded it, played for two weeks free and then started paying the monthly fee. What about me and other idiots who (pre)ordered the game and payed for it? So we pay for the game and monthly sub, and others (no offense jared) are only pay the sub. I want my money back then.
That which does not kill me makes me stronger.

For those that purchased the game, they got 30 days free. Someone who doesn't buy the game as it is now, only gets 7 days free.vutescu wrote:Huh? They are giving the game away for free now? Is THAT bad? Are they sinking THAT fast?

Big differance.
