Display Error

Post by pgawd »

"Cannot create a Window Display 1024 x 768 32bits" is the error message I get upon trying to play Ryzom for the first time. If someone could point me in the direction of how to fix this, I'd be thankful.

We would need some details as to what video card and drivers you are using before we can diagnose things. Anything like a built onto the motherboard video chip will, in most cases, not be adequate for playing a graphically intensive game like SoR. You can email support-ee@ryzom.com with a copy of the diagnostics text from the dxdiag* program and we can advise you further.
* How to run dxdiag: Click 'Start' button; Select 'Run...' ; Enter dxdiag in the input box; Click 'Okay'; Click the button 'Save all information' and name an output file; Attach that file to your email.

i also have the same problem me and my brother used to play ryzom all the time on this computer till he went away and something major went wrong with the drivers. the screen was covered in vertical lines and when i drag things they turn green. lol so i downloaded ryzom and it said the same error code as above ^^ so i went to the driver download website and managed to find a driver which got rid of the lines but had to be in a smalled screen reselotion. i tried to start ryzom but again it said the message. i have tried the ryzom configuration and turned everythhing down to low and the screen reselotion is correct but it just wont work. i am using a nvidia geforce2 MX/MX 400 if that means anything. thanks

Did you try to force the game to use OpenGL or D3D instead of the auto setting?

You may configure that by starting ryzom_configuration_rd.exe and then select Display on the left side navigation bar, and set the desired mode in the Driver box at the right side.

Without knowing your system specs, I would just be guessing at what the problem is. If you could do as Zerlin asked and/or post it here as well, that would help greatly.

The two most likely things are either you have a video card or a monitor that does not support 1024 X 768 32 bit resolution. As Zerlin also stated, if you are using onboard video instead of a video card, more than likely it does not have enough graphic processing ability to handle a game such as Ryzom. If it is not any of the above, it could very well be a driver issue. Posting those system specs will enable us to help you better.

Ouch :) It means you're in for a whole lot of pain I'm afraid. That card is not really up to Ryzom at all, in terms of performance. It's also not a good card for supporting the graphical features Ryzom uses - I would say a top-line GeForce 3 is the absolute minimum, if you want to enjoy your game. This is a *very* intensive game, and your Gfx card is outdated by several years unfortunately.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but on my other old PC I had the same problem, and found out how to fix it, so I'll just post it here in case someone else has the problem too.

Using this card too.
pgawd wrote:"Cannot create a Window Display 1024 x 768 32bits"

And getting these problems to.

To fix it:
- Right click somewhere on your desktop
- Click Properties
- Go to the Settings tab
- Click the Advanced button
- If you get a warning, just click ok and ignore it
- Go to the Troubleshout tab
- Set the slider to Full
- Click OK, OK, OK, etc..
- Goto Start > Run
- Run dxdiag
- Goto Display
- Enable everything in DirectX features
- Exit dxdiag

If the slider wasn't set to Full yet, and you were able to change the slider to Full, it should now be possible to launch Ryzom. But with such an old gfx card, you will most likely have a pc that is as old, and your loading time will be somewhere around an hour ;)

If it still doesn't work after setting those things:
- Use the ryzom_configuration tool thingy
- Set display settings to use OpenGL
