goodbye Raynes and good luck in whatever you do. If your not happy move on,if you aint enjoying it theres no point in playing it.
As for the gathering over the weekend,i wasn't invited,am i sad? no. I find Ryzom for me something quite special. It's not world of warcraft, running from mission to mission,it's not guild wars where everything is instanced. What i find Ryzom to be is, a mmoRPG,i don't PLAY ryzom doing missions to get xp becouse thats all there is to do, in fact you could proberly count the amount of missions i have done on one hand, what i find that happens is that i exist in Ryzom, I set my own goals,i decide what i have to do. Some nights my guildies just want to level and whilst we do that we chat on other occasions i will have a wander and basicaly do nothing but stroll and chat, stopping here and there to do a bit of harvesting (have you ever know anything so therapeutic).
Am I a roleplayer?,no i am not,but i do appreciate the efforts that the CSR/devs do to try and bring this game alive. I know of no other game where i have had so much interaction with the guides in an event or through customer support, hell i have played WOW,EQ2,city of heros,Guildwars to name a few and i haven't seen 1 member of their csr team in game at all.
Now the point I'm trying to make is there are going to be things that happen that we have not come across before, not something radically new,but just done differently to other mmorpgs,to my mind an event is unfolding and maybee Jena is coming,a war could be brewing and in the roleplaying context as in real life a secret meeting was held,it wasn't a huge event with exclusive content, but a meeting to relay a message,to create a buzz, and to stay in character. All we homins can do is see how it pans out, catch the wave and ride it.
Am i a fanboy? (my god just read this back, how many questions am i going to ask myself ), I don't know, nevrax has made some cock ups,yes I'm fully aware of that and i dont need to list them as i'm sure you all know them (dont mention patch 1)things have been promised that at the moment are not here, but at the end of the day they keep me playing. Ryzom does have something there, that i haven't come across before. what it is i don't know, but i like it *grabs the fanboy badge and pins it to his lapel*
so before we all go crazy.lets just wait and see,if it all goes wrong flame the boards
(sorry for any spelling mistakes and grammer,i'm a crap writer, hence the amount of post i have done)

Farewell Raynes (again). Hope you find something to enjoy playing
I liked the select few event. Rumours spread like wildfire afterwards. And roleplaying was abound with the few people i met and discussed it.
PS People come and people go, tis only a game.

Farewell Raynes and good luck in where ever life takes you. I finally get to say "ello" to you in game and then you are saying your goodbyes 24 hours later.
Even though I disaggreed with you on a lot of what you said or how you went about saying it, I do think you care about Ryzom and what happens to it......or at least you did. I don't know if I would quit over something like this, but it may be that this is the straw that finally broke the camel's back for you I guess. You just seemed so pumped from E3 you know.

Re: No more, I am done...
I must agree Diggin and Raynes that there should have been other events during weekend. It can be easy to feel left out of something worthwhile and feel sad about it. The official part was quite non-event and I feel sad that some people feel like missing something important. The real meat of that event was livening up general roleplaying in Atys after the event.

You are absolutely correct there. Hope to see you back after break!magick1 wrote: If a minor thing like that can have such a huge impact on someone, you know it is time for a break. Clearly some time off is for the better.

Re: No more, I am done...
If that's the basis then I retract the statement - somewhat.magick1 wrote:I get the feeling that you are thinking of me as one of them, if not just ignore the rest and skip to next post, m'kay?
Yes, I was invited to the event. No idea why, since I am in a solo guild (see elsewhere for why). But looking forward to it a lot.
Anyway, from the mail my impression was to go to a meeting point and then travel to a secluded place to hear more.
I might have arrived a bit late (1 minute past the meeting time on my clock), but the 1st part of the meeting was in progress, when suddenly I am teleported away.
My first thought was literary "what the ****", I don't remember haveing any ingame support tickets in queue, so nothing to do but wait and see what is happening.
As you already know this was the 'travel' part. Not as it has always been, haveing the players teaming up and makeing their way to a location. It was refreshing to see that other means were available.
But it also had a drawback (for me at least), do you remember this event?
Someone was held against their will for the "glory" of science. Now a neutral guild teleport me around against my will.
Of course what happend to Bai Jimao was a lot worse, but it goes against what my character is all about (freedom and nature basically).
As a side note, CSR always asks if you are ready to be moved around if you are stuck, I find it odd that they didn't remember to do that here (some are prone to crashes during tp).
So I have to do a lot of thinking, both me the player and character wants to be there, others want me to be there. Still the teleporting in very unsettleing.
What it comes down to is "a neutral guild using unknown means transported you to a unknown location, without asking or warning", which left my character with only one choice. To teleport away.
I will now tell you exactly why I had to stop playing before I planned to.
That minor incident left me in tears, yes I am grown enough to admit to be crying.
If a minor thing like that can have such a huge impact on someone, you know it is time for a break. Clearly some time off is for the better.
I still think its nothing, your reaction is - largely - in role and THAT to me is the purest essence of roleplaying, acting as your character would behave. However, in a larger setting, such as a LARP or an MMORPG you also have a social contract with the other players, to consider them and your role amongst them.
It seems then, the difference is, that Raynes is overreacting OOC to something without considering the effect or aim of it in game and you are overreacting IC with a knock on effect on your RL self. That's something I can actually respect a bit better, but I still think you're being silly.
Don't quit a game over your _character's_ reaction, consider and assimilate how it changes your view.

I'm not overreacting. As I have said this was the straw that broke the camels back. So what led up to this...grimjim wrote: It seems then, the difference is, that Raynes is overreacting OOC to something without considering the effect or aim of it in game
1) There hasn't been any decent updates since last year. Instead of making an effort to give the players events or simple updates all that I have heard are excuses about spring cleaning from Nevrax. Excuses that center around telling the players they are just going to have to deal with it.
2) Recently they gave us 4 new rites. The rite I did was nothing more than tasks I could of done anytime at all. It was an insult for them to wait months and months and end up giving us something like that. They should of been putting those in to keep us busy during the past 6 months.
3) Outposts. I saw them at E3 and got excited. Throw a dog a bone as they say. Since coming back I have heard nothing from them concening them. The end of April I predicted it would be at least June before they were in. Now You won't see them live until at least July. If I hadn't gone to E3 I wouldn't know anything at all.
4) The lack of events. No matter what excuse you come up with there has been a real lack of events by Nevrax. There was this big thing sometime ago that the gm's and guildes were give special tools to produce events, since that time there really has been no difference in the events produced. Over the past week there has been an increase in events, but ones where only certain individuals and groups have been invited. I find it disgusting that in order to make big events that include everyone, there has to be small events that include a few. Aside from the fact that it leaves out players who aren't in a guild or players that aren't one of the guilds invited, it also makes things very unfair. It demonstrates very poor planning and lack of thought for the general playerbase to have events for select guilds and players.
5) The lack of lore, npcs, and anything significant in game. The few things they have put in of significance (such as the green glowing domes) have been sitting in game unexplained and unused for months. For example their isn't one grave marker in the game that has an explaination behind it. I'm tired of being told "it's coming".
6) The lack of effort by Nevrax, the guides, and GM's to encourage roleplaying. I know that you will argue that is what these events are. It's redicilous to expect me to be happy that after so long of ignoring us, a few events will make things all better. They should be in game playing characters on a daily basis and making things happen on a daily basis.
7) The lack of excitement and support put forth by Nevrax. When I have read David's letters I have gotten excited. The problem is those letters are very rare and when there are no letters there is no excitement set forth by the devs, gm's, or any one else running this game.
8) The lack of effort by Nevrax to get more players into this game and get people excited about it. I am tired of people asking me what I am playing, then having to spend 20 minutes explaining about the game. I'm tired of constantly having to defend the game on other message boards. It gets very old and very tiring to try and convince people this game has more to it than leveling.
I guess what it comes down to is that I am tired of every aspect of this game lacking, being fed excuses why it's lacking, and then being expected to say it's all ok. Well it's not ok and I just can't handle playing a game on the basis that eventually it will stop being empty and turn to something great.

Raynes dont be a muppet! Consider this: what is the best way to spead to story...raynes wrote:I'm quitting because it sucks that they think it's ok to hold events for certain individuals of the game. People are saying it was more convincing to have a secret meeting where they told some players and those players were to spread the word? B.S.
They could of very easily had a NPC stand in the middle of Zora and tell everyone that same thing. The message would of got out, everyone would be included, and there would be much more excitement. Instead they choose to invite a handful of people.
I just gave everything I had away in game, I have transferred leadership of the Kult of Kami to Luquido, and I have deleted the charater Raynes (so if you want the name, go make a character). I am finished with this game.
a) players read the rather dry lore sections on the website
b) dev's put in a npc in the capital cities who cries 'blah blah blah jena is coming' when u click on it
c) the story spreads from the players themselves.
how much interesting is it if your friend tells u about things like this, rather than an npc.
final point - why would you expect to be invited, as this is obviosuly about your wounded pride.. i havent seen you at a single event in the last few months, and there have been a lot of them. imo this 'secret meeting' is great. They have taken people or guilds that have been active in other events and used them to spread the story.

I for one still believe this and that once it is done we'll see a great deal more happening.
If I were running the company and were in the current situation I would be doing three things.
Firstly, getting the Spring Clean done to make up for the rushed release, while simultaneously shouting at the investors and/or shareholders for pushing things too fast.
Secondly, getting outposts as tip-top perfect as possible so that goof ups like Patch One are not repeated.
Thirdly, planning a wide scale promotion and relaunch of the game for when outposts and easier content addition are both ready.
Something like this is what I suspect is going on.

Any quest boils down to pretty much the same thing. It is how you dress it up that is important and these new rites, at least the ones I have completed, have included lore, had reasons AND the normal mission text has improved.
After all...

I think the method in which this last storyline has been implemented is excellent and a strong step forward for MMORPGs in general. We have continuity, interconnectedness and what we did in one section has impacted on the next. Players are involved in spreading and debating the news.
Wonderful.

Equally we don't want everything all at once, nor - if I think about it - do I want to get lore from an automated town crier. There is some in game, in the form of the Encyclopaedia missions which do, generally, provide a good read. I agree there should be more, perhaps a potted history lore mission (race specific) on the refugee islands, but to say it is not there is to lie.

Here you are smoking crack.
This is the most RP friendly MMORPG in existence and the events seem to be getting better all the time in that regard. They make moves to improve on this aspect and you throw a fit. What kind of sense does that make? Where's the encouragement to do that on a daily basis if people like you throw a tantrum when they make steps towards it?
Also, do you have any idea how tiring and labour intensive it is to keep a coherant story for the number of people on an MMO server?
I used to run LARP games, in London, for groups of 50-100 people for 3-4 hours, once a month. It's exhausting and I had at least four people helping me at any one time. Translate that to MMO terms with the number of people we have. One GM for every 20 players? I don't think that's sustainable or likely, do you? Certainly not with paid people doing the job and if they're not paid, then they're volunteers.
That's what it would take to provide the entirely immersive experience.
"The lack of excitement and support put forth by Nevrax. When I have read David's letters I have gotten excited. The problem is those letters are very rare and when there are no letters there is no excitement set forth by the devs, gm's, or any one else running this game."
Every dream clashes with reality, but even if you can't reach what you're trying to, trying and getting halfway there is worthwhile. If Nevrax is like any of the creative businesses I've been involved with in my writing career then I'm not surprised the guide and GM excitement and revelations are not all that present. Contracts can be quite restrictive, especially in creative industries where ideas are the real currency.
