Hello,
I purchased the game, SoR, after following it on the internet for some time. I have played for a week and I am now cancelling my account. This game is neat and *could* be fun. However, it is plagued with laggy bugs and incompleteness. I cannot tolerate seeing "programming jargon" on certain buttons in the game such as noObject.blahblah. etc. I also cannot tolerate extreme and often laginess. Folks, the beta exists so that this sort of turbulence is NOT around when the game goes to retail. Ryzom was not cheap at $45, and the subscription is not cheap at $15 a month on the per month plan. I may check back in a couple of months to see if we have a playable game (playable by my standards I mean--yes, I know that you *can* play it now, but I don't think it is worth the frustration).
I also wish to state my opinion that your notice about lengthy account cancellations and *perhaps* having to buy a new game to begin to play again later is absolute marketing suicide. If you are trying to *scare* people into not cancelling, you are shooting yourself in the foot and insulting those that have purchased your game. No reputable company would make someone repurchase a game to play it just because they have chosen not to play it for a while. Look at other successful MMORPGs (DaoC) and get a clue. They don't even delete your characters.... ever.
Just my thoughts about some things. Hope you find this enlightening in some fashion or another.

I can totally and fully understand your frustraition with these issues and I feel them myself...I even quit the game for the night several hours ago because the *please wait* sign was driving me insane trying to get the right source mode and not knowing if the game registrered your click or not...I wont abandon just yet though...
I'll let them tweak and fix for some time while I ***** and moan about the lag!
So great potential should not be wasted by a code error or whatever makes the server lag so bad...
Nevrax come on...I have faith in you!
Re: The Current State of Ryzom
When I first got Ryzom the lag wasn't there, I'm confident they can solve the problem soon.
If you're not even going to see what they do with the rest of your free month, well oh well guess nobody can really say anything then if your closed to change and input.

...and here I thought it was the Independant Republic of Ryzom...
Re: The Current State of Ryzom
Yeah the lag can be pretty nuts in Ryzom, which is ruining the game a bit for me. Plus nothing like getting a mission and seeing something like "Go search fo cl.name.cl_blahblah" so you get to search for something or someone you have no idea what it is.
Maybe they should've waited another month or two before shipping the game. They could've at least fixed more of the lag problems and the missing text. Maybe soon the lag won't be as bad anymore.

Re: The Current State of Ryzom
I don't think delaying the release would have stopped the lag. While there was random spurts of lag on rare occasion in the beta, there was never anything like this. The lag problem is new to after the release. The random "programming jargon" is annoying yes, but I hardly see it at all anymore, nothing like it was in beta. Usually you can figure out what its talking about anyway.
Re: The Current State of Ryzom
Lag was never this bad in beta.. even on the party server that was the main stress test, lag was so rare..
I mean, noob towns had 40+ people in them, mainland towns were swarming with players, and lag was very minimal. Except when the server was just about to crash.. but thats why they had that server ... to stress test.
I'd still like to see the missing text seen to, and.. for those of us who do not read french.. translate some of the skill descriptions that are still french..
Text isnt game stopping.. lag is. I could deal with it during the day.. little rubber banding, but nothing annoying like it was 10 min before server died..

Re: The Current State of Ryzom
I agree with that the lag is extraordinary. It came up last Friday and I sure hope that it gets fixed real soon now.
As for the bugs and missing features, yes, a sad topic. I like the game very much but I have to agree that there are many, many bugs, unbalances and missing features in the release. Welcomers not working/responding, missions broken, NPC dialogues broken or not existant, broken stanzas, missing materials, etc.
Some people will tolerate these things as they're just too common in many MMOG releases, other people will not tolerate this and leave the game - and that's sad because it could be such a good game.
