Greetings, homins.
Once again Xanavan has something to say about *possible* future content, giving you the opportunity to argue and point out the defects in my ideas.
Today, it's about the potion like consumables previously mentioned in the forums and other places regarding Ryzom. I don't know if Nevrax has thought about the following ideas, but nonetheless I would like to share my thoughts on the topic.
Anyways, go get the the point, I think these potions would be a great idea. If I were on the development team, I would suggest making these different from other games, in order to go along with most of the other elements that make Ryzom so great. So, instead of having little bottles of different colors corresponding to what they heal, how bout making them like food. (food other than eggs ) This food and drink could be purchased from the local barman and would contribute a variety of bonuses to the consumer. For instance, in addition the the life/sap/stamina etc. heals, there could also be melee aura and magic aura and invulnerability etc. too. <----(I know Nevrax has already thought of that, judging by the egg event) Also, to add some more coolness and realism, how bout adding some things that give a timed bonus like one that lets you hit harder for twenty minutes, or one that increases your regens for a fixed amount of time. Then, the downside of substance is that it makes you tired after it's done. Kinda like a sugar high Also, there could be potions that increase your stats for a little while, allowing you to use a better weapon or armor for the duration of a hunt, as well as granting extra life or stamina or whatever.
To add even more coolness, what about making some "illegal" substances These would be rare, found only in certain cities or some even that only certain outlands hawkers carry. These could give extra special bonuses, the downside being that it could hurt you over time or that if you die and the kami/karavan have to rez you, they could penalize you with extra DP, since the substance is illegal. There could even be some of these potions that are legal in some regions but outlawed in others. For instance, everything would be legal in Fyros lands...
Lastly, there would be the same idea with the quality of the potion as there was with the eggs. The greater the quality, the more the bonus does or lasts for. Also, I think each of the "special" potions mentioned (i.e. non-generic) should have a downside. This is where fine/choice/excellent etc. comes in. The higher grade of the material decreases the "side effects."
This is just about all I have to say on the topic, so i'll let you guys bark at me now
Thank you for your time, you were an outstanding audience

Re: "Potion Like Consumables"
I would think it's in zorai where everything is legal, fyros is quite civilized, zorai people are blue and have funky hairstyles something that would give implication to "illegal substances"random44 wrote:These would be rare, For instance, everything would be legal in Fyros lands...
As for the idea i think it's great, maybe add another craft branch or some sort, where stuff like sap and bark can be ground up to make different stuff
maybe leading up to explosive ammunition and burn/electric/shockwave/poison effects on weapons but as for coming into the game....who knows when

Just my 2 cents....
It's been said that devs are revamping the user interface, so maybe it is already being taken into account, but I found that the process to "drink" or "eat" a potion/egg is rather cumbersome (open inventory, look for the right one, right click, select consume... ) I don't know myself how this could be streamlined. thoughts? have a hotkey that displays a list of potions? being able to 'link' a toolbar action to a potion in inventory? add new emotes like /drink potion ? ...after several months of getting repeteadly killed while harvesting, even my clumsy self has been able to learn how to quickly select speed, melee aura, invul... I'd like to be able to drink potions as fast as this....

The problem with the eggs was that they disabled your normal use of such powers for a timer.iphdrunk wrote:Just my 2 cents....

Re: "Potion Like Consumables"
Indeed, but I was referring to the tedious and cumbersome process to consume one item. I often spend several seconds to use the ticket Iwant, I'm afraid it won't be much different with potionsgrimjim wrote:The problem with the eggs was that they disabled your normal use of such powers for a timer.

I think this would be a great idea, specially as an additional craft branch. If you could have potions that increase your stamina/sap/life level during a fight for instance, people would certainly buy them. Or like an "enchanted potion" for mages.

Re: "Potion Like Consumables"
I like the idea of negative side effects as it would reduce the effectiveness of potions. I don't like the future where you would have to have bag full of potions when you go hunting and you are most of hunt highly buffed with various potions.
I want booze potions that would decrease your skill lvls. You could hunt with lower lvl characters without ruining their xp using your favorite skills. You would not get xp with that way though. For convenience, strength etc should not be decreased so you could use your normal items but with reduces effectiviness (like melee weapon damage works now). Dodge/parry should drop too to make hunt more exciting.
This thread was about crazy ideas, right

If its about this, i want to place rotten consumables around me while digging and the stink of them should keep away aggros for a timemmatto wrote: This thread was about crazy ideas, right
Or a tree that enables me to argue with a kincher if its bad or good to dig at this spot . Maybe he let me dig 30 mins if i give him 10 of my eastereggs ?
A more serious thought would be a crafting tree for perfumes that generate an aura that holds on longer then 15 secs.

Re: "Potion Like Consumables"
It's not a bad idea, I just would not want to have to depend on consumables to get anywhere in the game. If they are going to be put into the game, there should be some side effects to using them, like if you eat/drink something to boost your strength, then when it runs out it will leave you weak for a few moments.
So, it's down to the player if they decide if they should use the item, otherwise if there were no such downsides, everyone would be using them without the need to train up their stats, thus making that part of the system useless.

Re: "Potion Like Consumables"
Great ideas Xanavan
To solve the problem with picking the right potions quickly, it would be handy to have a drop-down "menu" on the toolbar to choose potions. This would also work with tp tickets once they'll become stackable.
I want the ability to equip cloakes as well. I think PR foragers would appreciate stealth cloaks that will remove their blue dot from the compass, as well as hides traces of foraging (Quantity, Quality). The stealth cloak can also decrease aggro range of creatures, so they have to be real close to spot you.
I'll stop now..
