Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

@zukor:

a MMORPG is what the community makes out of it. the game itself is nothing more than a tool that provides basic functions.

people just like to be entertained (watching TV) instead of performing entertainment themselves

however, i hope nevrax will stand up and fight! i will do my part and leave the game when they pull the plug, not a second earlier. (okay, maybe if i die before that, but only maybe)

IMO a reorganization is not an unusual thing.

If your expenses are greater than your income, you will go broke soon. To avoid this, you have to change something. Such a reorg. isn't for free. Lawyers, Business Consulants etc. all these things are additional costs. When you have to do something like this, then do it right.

I think thats exactly what Nevrax is doing. As long there is room to breathe and act, nothing is lost. The whole situation could be even worse: Nevrax could have been listed on the French Stock exchange :p

I hope Nevrax will give us some additional informations about what is happening atm. Maybe then we dont have to make all this speculations :D

I love this game... before i found Ryzom I told myself and friends that I am not willing to pay the price to buy a game, and then continue paying $15-30 a month to KEEP playing something I already bought. I'm ust one of those tight-fisted money-grubbing you-know-whats that doesnt like to drop what little money I have for a game that I cant play offline as many times as I want.

Well, now I've been playing Ryzom for nearly three months and I dont see myself stopping anytime soon. I love the crafting system, the foraging system, the stanxa system.... all of it! I bought Knights of the old Republic about two weeks ago and started playing... and I have yet to beat the game because I keep getting back into Ryzom do get 'just one more level' and such. I'm a major Star Wars fan, but I wont touch SWG... it just doesnt sound all that good. Now... if I could go out and find parts, craft myself a blaster, a lightsaber, some armor... a SHIP... then it might be cool, but as far as i know... you cant. So, its Ryzom for me!

Oh, and even if the SW MMORPG gets to a point like that.... I'll stay with Ryzom... I'm loyal to my first addictions :D

I cant WAIT for the new stuff Nevraxx is supposed to be making for the game... that expansion where we can impact the world by what we do.. that sounds awesome...

As far as the chapter 11 thing goes... lol, I'm clueless about whats going on behind the scenes at Nevraxx... I know nothing about law and dont care to learn more than I have to. I just believe that this product is good and if even the players try hard enough to spread the word, it will become huge.

Now then... when can we buy T-shirts with Ryzom logos and karavan pics? I want a mouspad.. a t-shirt.. a bumper sticker... all of it! lol...

sorry.. I'll shut up now. :-|

That is why they are in trouble, because they do not have the resources to live up to that promise. It is a promise that was intended to be fulfilled before the game launch.

Reorganizing things internally is something companies do all the time. Going to court to restructure their debt is not, and is often a bad sign.

Actually, you can craft items in SWG much like Ryzom. You mine raw materials, convert those to parts and them assemble the parts with a template. The difference is the mining is far more simple(no blow ups or concentration required). The only tricky part is finding the raw materials...from that point machines can do all the rest. Just like a macro can do all your fighting and healing. I left because there just wasn't really any challenge to anything...

There is some truth to what you say. But the newer MMORPG's are adding much more content. And SoR has to compete against them. The lack of success of the game reflects these competitive efforts by others.

Also, SoR was heavily marketed as being a living world where everything you did could influence things. There would be Kitin invasions, kill a kitin scout and you might provoke an attack, etc. An outpost might come under attack and put out a distress call for all nearby homins to come help. That "dynamic world" was the whole reason I started playing immediately after the beta ended. And it's never been realized! I think many others, who were interested in SoR for the same reason I was, have drifted away once the core premise of the game never materialized.

Nothing wrong with that. You may turn out to be right. Time will tell.

I don't want to get into arguments either. Agree or disagree, one of the best things about this community is it's maturity, and the reasoned tone of most discussions.

On the contrary; I have lost interest in Ryzom because it is like TV. The events are scripted, everything is preplanned, the missions are completely on rails. I gathered a group and killed a kizarak in Underwood Woe, and even killing the matron of a kitin hive had no effect on the game world.

Beach parties and contests are all well and good, but those are not content, at least not the kind I'm looking for. I'm looking for story, character development, and an effect on the game world itself. The entire story of this game is being spoon-fed to us just like a television show. Saying that a MMORPG is what you make of it is like saying there's no difference between a Diku MUD and a TinyMUSH. If none of those "basic functions" allow players to take part in the game story or game world, then those functions are in my opinion insufficient to support a vibrant game environment.

I was at Viatel when they went through Chapter 11, also saw Carrier1 and a few other companies go through it at the same time. The main difference between those who survived and those who didnt were the ones that were pro-active applied for Chapter 11 early to get the protection to re-organise and those who didnt left it until it was too late.

It gives you protection from your creditors for a limited period of time, in which you must put together a business plan on how you will re-organise the business to make it profitable and how you plan to repay your creditors and in what time frame.

Best thing is to not speculate and wait until we see some kind of announcement.

I for one will be very disapointed if I dont get to play with Outposts.
