Actually from what I've read they will do what they have done several times in the past. let you keep your hard earned levels and sp, while they wipe all your spells so all u need to do is go back to the trainers and re-train them with all your already earned SPayne31 wrote:For my part i decided to let the free trial pass and wait until after patch2 as I am 100% sure everyone who hasnt got some inside information will be forced to reroll his main character.

@dam:
I can understand your dissatisfaction with the content present at release. Yes, SoR lacks the missions, especially the guild ones. BUT.... You were in FB. You should know that there were massive issues both with balancing and with the server stability. I think I don't need to mention that the first thing the server did at the open weekends was crashing And, in addition, I don't think I need to say that people still don't have the ability to automatically duplicate themself when it's needed. Cloning isn't an option either, so "human resources" are limited.
I might not be in game as long as other former Beta testers, but from my pov, if I had to choose between having a stable server at release and having more content at release, I'd choose the stable server, and I think Nevrax decided the same way. There are already two (or even three?) major patches scheduled for the next couple of weeks, and the content listed in the prepatch information there sounds very promising to me. In the meantime there's enough preparations to do like getting spawn points, doing the first levels and so on, or even bringing the own guild story forward.
Yes, if you take all the features that _should_ be in a release, SoR is not complete. But it is readier for release than most of the other MMOs were. Let's talk this issue over after Patch One and Patch Two... If Nevrax didn't manage to provide a decent amount of content in those two updates, then we'd have a real problem. Hope they make it.
@saifer:
No need for ranting or being unpolite. Most people complaining here are only complaining because they saw SoR evolving, and Nevrax didn't quite manage to bring in features that supposed to be in game at release. There (hopefully) won't be a state when "full content" is provided for the next couple of years. If the content is complete, the saga is at the end... I don't like to talk about closing a book when I just opened it

Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
Its not that - what i fear is that it turns out that they re-intriduce archetypes which means race1=perfect mage, race2=perfect fighter etc.kibsword wrote:Actually from what I've read they will do what they have done several times in the past. let you keep your hard earned levels and sp, while they wipe all your spells so all u need to do is go back to the trainers and re-train them with all your already earned SP
In addition to that I will not feel gifted if I get a special skill tree that was open for my race at lvl 50 while all my characters iare lvl 100 allready. In that case i would feel betrayed of the fun slowly developing this new skill.

I dont want to become annoying but am I really the only one on this whole &%$§"! board who would have taken option 3 and wait patiently for a game including stability AND content.dpi209 wrote:I might not be in game as long as other former Beta testers, but from my pov, if I had to choose between having a stable server at release and having more content at release, I'd choose the stable server, and I think Nevrax decided the same way.
Does ANYONE really think the (too) early release date had any other reason then getting us on the hook as long as WoW and EQII had not hit the shelves????
Its NO player-beneficial action to release a game prematurely instead of continuing the beta test its just a $$$$$ thing.

In business, I'm afraid, there is no "just" about a $$$$ thing! Run out of $$$$ and the business shuts..............
Release dates are almost entirely controlled by money for these things. SoR should have been released in June - but Nevrax did manage to persuade their backers to allow them and extra few million euros (yes, the sums involved would have been in the millions) to push it back 3 months - I very much doubt whether more money would have been available to push it back still further.
At that point you have 2 options:
a) Release the game, warts and all.
b) Cancel the entire probject and write off the loss.
I'm glad they chose option (a).
And yes, many developers of MMORPGs do choose option (b). For a specific example check out "Warhammer Online" - canned earlier this year.
I don't know the specific numbers, but I'd guess (based on the games listings on place like Gamespy) as many as 50% of MMORPGs never see the light of day when they hit (or get close to) the release date and realise the game isn't going to make it.
Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
Well - I'm kinda old fashioned and refuse to be thankfull for getting half a product instead of none.
If you have dinner and you get served a half-cooked meal with the explanation that the cook wanted to finish it but the manager told him they are unable to pay him any further if he doesnt have it served immediately....
....wouldn't you tell the waiter very polite that this is the worst joke you ever heard, leave the restaurant immediately and look for another place? Maybe not if you are starving but in my case I still have my EQ account, WoW and EQ2 about to get under my christmas tree and a RL too.
An unfinished game for 50 bucks is something I can live without so I will toy around for the free 30 day-trial and then wait patiently for the day the game has all the content that was originally announced for the release. In the meantime Nevrax can laough its @ass off that I paid 50 bucks in advance for something I wont use but they wont get their monthly fee from me until they did their homework.

Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
I agree, I wouldnt be happy for paying for half a service on my car because the garage wanted to close on time.
This month is free, if however they havent brought in some content then I will be off.
Wacking animals and crafting is interesting for about a month, i wasnt an FB and this game wont last due to the attitude of he ex FBs alone. It needs other objectives than just going up levels.

Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
mounts and guild missions are meant to have been in at release, they are described in the manual, guild missions are even one of the features touted on the web site. They are not in and any product that does not do as described is bugged. The fact that those people on beta testing knew that they weren't going to be in does not alter that fact. I write software for a living, I'd like to see our company try to argue that because our testers knew about something that didn't work/was missing somehow meant that it wasn't really a bug.
The area that could be described as 'content to be added' is that of decent missions. The ones I've seen so far are pretty boring and repetitive fed ex type things, I'm not far into the game yet so they may get better, but good missions for newbies are important to help 'hook' us. Even the fairly repetitive missions in Coh were at least wrapped up in a story.
The game looks great, the character development looks good, but the actual 'game'/'long term appeal' seems pretty naff so far (i'm not a power gamer who sees leveling as the goal). I sincerley hope they fix that fast cos I could see myself really enjoying it, but at the moment the kill->craft repeat doesn't have the appeal to keep me going, especially as Rome: total war is out today and by the time i finish with that EQ2 and WoW will be around (not that i've any idea how good they'll actually be either), or CoH which strangely does seem to keep me hooked despite it's pretty shallow game play (maybe the fact that I don't see it as anything other than a casual game is what keeps me on that - plus even my daughter can understand and play it with me).

Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
same old same old,
you people make me laugh ... not!
you spend ages whining that theres a bug.. fix it.. then whine the game release has been delayed then demand a release date then complain theres a bug and that 'it must be fixed' before release then whine for a release date again, then u write in the forums complaining the game wasnt ready for release but are grateful it was else u would still be playing with urselves in the toilet, then u come here to whine more and make poles about a reduntant question that cant change the past as its already happened whether u like it or not. Also just how much money do u think these companies have to pay 50+ staff for years and years with no income? u whine to put it off and fix the bugs u whine its released too early and if the company had gone bankrupt u would whine that they were incompetant (and u wouldnt have a game to play) so dont poll useless questions like, was it released too early?, the answer is no it wasnt if it had been left any longer nevrax and the sponsors may well have pulled out and it would have ended up buried next to dragon empires.
Now stop *****ing and play the game.

Re: Ryzom released too early IMO
Was ryzom released too early? No it wasn't - the majority of the game works well and in its current state is fit for release. Speaking as a software developer myself i find all this whinging quite annoying. We have deadlines to meet just like everyone else and unexpected things go wrong all the time that throw a project of schedule. If the devs had decided to delay the release by 6 mnths all you lot who are moaning about bugs & missing content would be complaining about the delay.
Oh and as for bug free software - there is no such thing (with possibly the exception of real time critical systems) , you could test a piece of software forever and still not find all the bugs until it enters the public domain.
So all im saying is give the devs a break they're doing the best and will get round to everything eventually (they do have to prioritise their work load u know!)
