Seems to me part of you problem is you're OE going magic only. I noticed when I young that it's much easier to lvl in fighting than magic. Not only because magic doesn't really come into it's own until after 100lvl but also because you get to wear heavy armor when you melee which makes a big difference. In my experience ryzom isn't a game that you can use just one skill set. You need a well balanced character until you reach 100 or you need to group alot so other's skill can compliment your own. I do think the ragus are a bit overzealous but they REALLY do prepare you for the tougher enviorments you'll face later in the game.

If you are leveling offensive magic solo, you are going to be in a lot of danger. I strongly recommend finding a group and going to fleeting garden. Also, certain mobs in FG are weaker than certain mobs in MG - robust frippos are particularly weak (though they drain sap and are a bad choice for mages).

Gingos will summon assistance. They will also blind you. These are some of their special abilities. There are a number of ways to deal with this. If you stand near green seed camp and nuke from 50 meters (use you compass target to get a feel for distance until you have a sense for it), you will often be able to kill the dog before it even reaches you. It's very important to nuke from a long distance if you're soloing elemental. Also make sure you have good amps - 100% power 71% speed amps are very easy to come by, send me a tell and I'll give you some q60s free. Never go close to the gingo - gingos are always found in packs, and if you get close to one then you can bet there are others near. The first gingo will call the other gingos even if you don't get within aggro range of them.

Aggro lists in this game. Each enemy does have a "hit list." It will attack the first thing on the list until the battle is over, and then immediately move to the second thing on the list. I've never had listed aggro follow me more than 200 meters - if you get more than 200 meters away before the original battle is over, the aggro should drop. In MG with dogs there is rarely time to get 200m away, so the best strategy is to prepare (either run for town or be ready to nuke it as it comes to you).

Pulling aggro is effective - when you see another gingo "spawn" next to you, what you are actually seeing is a gingo assisting the first. It didn't spawn, it was already there - it just runs straight at you as soon as you attack its friend. Go to an outpost and stand exactly 50 meters away from a gingo. Nuke the gingo and immediately run into the center of the outpost. This should prevent the gingo from calling aid. If you're on the road from Yrkanis to the fork near Green Seed, there are gingos all along that road. If you're near the road, the gingo will usually have friends nearby. There are some "safe spots," the green seed camp and area directly east of it in particular, but you have to be a safe distance from all gingos in order to avoid those assists.

There are many in-between creatures in Majestic Garden. In the first place, sprightly yubos and caprinis should be giving you reasonable experience at your level. Try moderate kipees - they are probably best, but if you get unlucky they could stun and kill you. Having some help from a healer will do worlds of good. Get a melee and a healer of your level and kill hard kipees - those will take you to level 50 pretty safely (at your level I would recommend blooming psykoplas in FG with an appropriate group, or perhaps vigilant kizoars/kipee - you will probably die a few times before you find a good spot though. Try the area south of rising border post, it is usually very safe and has good mobs in the 50-80 range).

Learn to sneak - this is easier said than done. You will die a lot in doing this. But some hints for the area around Yrkanis - start by going northwest, onto the hill north of the road. Gingos and ragus are there, but aren't as concentrated. Staying north will usually keep you relatively safe if you're heading toward psykopla knoll. If you're going to the other towns, head west until you are east of the Green Seed camp. Then move south - there is usually a clean spot in the road just east of Green Seed. From Green Seed camp hug the wall and be careful. This is a tricky spot but the fork in the road is about the worst place you can be, stay a bit south of it and head through the ora and the herbivore herds (watch that compass for fast-moving dots and yellow dots. Those will indicate gingos). I can make it from Yrkanis to Natae pretty consistently without drawing any gingo aggro, and outside of Yrk it does get much easier. If you run into trouble make it back to Green Seed camp for help - if you're matis and haven't killed any of them, they will help you.

The dogs around that area are excessive, I agree. That kind of thing is fine in the bog, but in an area devoted to new players it's a bit silly. Also none of the other lands come close (especially zorai). But the problem isn't insurmountable. It gets much less frustrating when you can kill them with one spell! Good luck, and keep at it - you'll learn to deal with them.

i said what i said, b/c you started whining from post one. you think that you are right and they are wrong. you dont even try to find other mobs and stay 100m from town where you are safe.

there is higher lvl mobs out there that you can kill. leave dogs alone they will kill you when you are solo. it's the way they are. they have low hp but they attack rate/damage is bigger than non aggros.

find a group, go exploring and have fun... and remember stay away from dogs
Let me guess.. you're of the "Nevrax can do no wrong; the player should just deal with it" mentality, right?
actually i dont like them atm... i'm harvester afterall

When I was training in magic near Yrkanis I had an encounter with some gingos. Bruised and battered, I made my way back to my mentor, Vario Ligno, to ask his advice on the subject.

"Master Ligno," I said, still angry at my beating, "teach me the secret of destroying these foul dogs with magic so that I may journey to the far reaches of Matis and learn it's secrets." So he sent out into the depths of the forest at night, naked and with only hands to defend myself. "When you learn how to defeat a Scowling Gingo in this manner, then will I teach you that which you seek."

I set myself against the gingos, sure there must be a method in my masters seeming madness. Three times I died. Three times my master was waiting for me as I sat beside the Karavan Guardians, regaining my strength. And three times the only answer to my questions was his hand, gesturing me back to the forest. On my way out from the Yrkanis gates, I paused. I sat in a safe place in the forest and watched the gingos and raguses until dawn. I watched as they mobbed the tiny Yubos and Caprynis. I saw how futile someone of my meagre experience standing against such a creature. The Scowling Gingos were never so much as troubled by even the largest of the local fauna. They were truely the rulers of this part of the land.

I went back to my master, head bowed. "They are too powerful for me, master. I cannot defeat them until I learn and become more powerful. Will you teach me?"

"Yes my child." answered my master.

Handing me back my armour he continued. "You would not fight an enemy naked. Clothe yourself in knowledge." He then handed me my sword and my shield. "One day you may defeat an entire pack using a keen blade but it is nothing without a keen mind." So he took me to my safe spot in the forest once more and I learned the movements of the gingo and the ragus. I learned when to use my pike and when my sword. I hunted the Yubo and the Capryni and passed by the dogs as they rested in the shade. It was easy to travel past them once I knew how far away they would take notice a homin or when they were preoccupied with hunting other prey. Soon, when I was ready, I could indeed take on a pack of wild dogs. But only when I was ready.

As for magic, smiling Master Ligno did indeed impart how I could kill a gingo with magic. "You must be powerful enough to kill it before it reaches you, or strong enough to take the damage when it does. I would not jump in the air and swing my arms about in front of an enemy if I could not."

Or Nevrax could fix the bug where aggro mobs split while being fought. This was a bad problem the other night for us where 1 out of 4 fights the cuttler would split twice meaning 3 cuttlers to fight instead of one. Only certain aggro seem to be affected by this problem (gingos, cuttlers, kinchers), but the problem does exist.

then you just pulled the first that popped from the spawn while the other cuttlers still have to pop lol then they pop all on ur head :)

lvl 40 mage trying to solo a ragus or gingo and you're surpised you're dying?


thing is this with char mechanics

at low lvl
melee = high damage + high hp
magic = low damage + low hp

at high lvl
melee = low damage + very high hp
magic = very high damage + low hp

this is not nevrax's fault, this is the way ANY rpg work, started with d&d 30 years ago, magic is slow to start but it will deal a lot of damage at higher lvls

Most RPG's are class based though. A magician will stay a magician. In Ryzom a magician can also be a melee (or a high lvl harvester) to gain a lot of HP too.

So my tip to all the newby casters, level up melee to lvl 50 or more and buy some nice high HP jewels and caster armor. Then your magic leveling will work so much safer and smoother.

If you want the really safe road, lvl up harvesting to lvl 100 about, gives you enough HP too.

I leveled my healing to 105, and melee to 115 before I started as a offencive magican. Much better amps, lots of hp, and a good sap reserve makes it much easier.

Sure, in the staring as a refugee, gingos killed me a lot, and I got myself friends crying for a rez :) But isnt this a part of the game? And later get the feeling of mastering such situation? Now I kill 7 gingos and ragus 4* in 3 strikes with my Pike, and my Elemental magic (lvl 115 atm) seem that it will be much better than my melee in just a few levels (level 125 is nice I hear :) )..

So, its just the first weeks a gingo at Green Seeds are a issue. Later its just something you will have to walk stright through at the way to KoD or GoC, or even better, Hidden source and Tryker..... :)
