If range and magic get split up, sort of like that, which they shouldnt because magic is it's own tree and range is half of another...
then they shouldnt be based on alliances to gods, rather the race you are, is technology based on one's religion? or is it working due to the economy of a country? for example, tryker might be best at making guns that have a good range while fyros will have a good damage mod on theirs, zorai will be faster and matis will be...err i dunno
something along those lines with different weapons and such

I'm pretty sure this value is wrong, launchers and autolaunchers hit 500 damage per shot well before level 150, and the burden/mat use is obscene/broken to say the least (2 mats per shot for autolaunchers, and 4 mats per shot for launchers). Rifles are nowhere near 500 damage per shot at 150 is going to be 300 or so if I'm not mistaken. Bowrifles are going to be the exact same damage as rifles. Pistols will be even lower damage than rifles. Also someone else brought up the incredibly important point of stamina use...

Re: Suggestions for ranged fighting
I think that stamina useage should be ballanced, and that ammo should have to pass the "reality" test. I think that the Devs never ever held guns or ammo in their hands.
Honestly I have held pistols, rifles, shotguns, and even got a chance once, while on vacation to visit a cousin in the Army, I got to hold Military automatics. I have felt the weight of 100 rounds of pistol ammo (I could carry that box in my purse all day), 50 rounds of rifle ammo and shotgun shells, and felt the weight of a string of automatic ammo (it was blanks, don't worry, but blanks are almost the same weight). Let's just say that for THESE items...I would NOT need a pack mule to carry a "reasonable" amount around.
I have to agree that someone misplaced a decimal or something, somewhere in all this ranged stuff.
I am not expecting that they test ranged FULLY against reality, since I heard...and tend to believe...the statisic that a running person is reasonably safe from an untrained, non professional with a hand gun. The odds are that you will only get hit four times in 100 shots, NONE fatal. If they apply that fact...ranged will remain borked to heck and back.
(those odds are for a standard 9mm hand gun NO scope, with person "running for their life", and bear in mind that a 9mm clip does NOT hold 100 shots, so you would get a break while they had to either refill the clip, OR pop in a fresh one. Odds are you would get to cover before you even got hit ONCE.)
But then a ranged meleer wouldn't be "untrained" nor nonprofessional now...would they?! and I am not sure, but a scope would be technology that we don't have yet *scowls at Karavaners*

Re: Suggestions for ranged fighting
don't expect too much, the devs prolly have no real clue about weapons, just watch some of the fighting animations or the idle animations. ex.: what real warrior would put a sword down on it's tip?lyrah68 wrote:I think that the Devs never ever held guns or ammo in their hands.

On the other hand, are your RL weapons made of bone, chitin, wood and amber held together by magical engineering?xenofur wrote:don't expect too much, the devs prolly have no real clue about weapons, just watch some of the fighting animations or the idle animations. ex.: what real warrior would put a sword down on it's tip?
RL doesn't have much relevence here and, RL black powder weapons were unreliable but reasonably deadly while having an accurate and effective range not much more than fifty feet.
Ryzom's guns have more in common with, at best, revolvers in terms of technology I reckon.

Re: Suggestions for ranged fighting
i think people here should just stop using the words real, reality, or RL, the important thing is plausibility and consistency and that's a point where many concepts on atys are currently lacking

Re: Suggestions for ranged fighting
OR I think they care more about what "looks good" which is more important to most people than whether or not resting a sword tip on the ground is good for it. This is the right thing to do I think... Since they don't have scabbards for example, what else are you supposed to do with your sword when you are standing around for ages doing nothing?xenofur wrote:i think people here should just stop using the words real, reality, or RL, the important thing is plausibility and consistency and that's a point where many concepts on atys are currently lacking

i was doing an example, i pulled the numbers out of my rear end in other words the numbers were wrong and there to prove a point not to be accurate
glad you can see how you can point out my EXAMPLE can be flawed. way to go and be petty man
i really love ppl who talk just to hear their own voice
as for the use of stam, change your stam around or use light or med armour and not heavy, my friend who does range has 2 stanzas that he uses for range
stanza 1 is easy on stam and not as high as a hit rate or damage dealing
stanza 2 is high on stam and basically unloads on the mob
also if you're using range and using stam, try using the hp creds instead of just the stam creds, there is a hump that fighters need to get over before they don't waste as much stam, i went through that problem of using too much stam but i think it's also a mage issue with not having a high stam heal or not having enough sap to do it
thing is you have to tweak the stanzas, i had to with a fighter and i don't have my accurate attack, ignore armour and increase damage all turned up, i have them staggered,

I think giving basic information about ranged to Tetra is not going to add much to any discussion. Agree or disagree with Tetra, he/she is clearly extremely knowledgeable about ranged.thexdane wrote:i was doing an example, i pulled the numbers out of my rear end in other words the numbers were wrong and there to prove a point not to be accurate

I think his point was to say that the animation show a good number of amazingly bad idea things to do with some of the weapons regardless of what they are made of.grimjim wrote:On the other hand, are your RL weapons made of bone, chitin, wood and amber held together by magical engineering?
Zorai ranged weapons appear to be more like a hypothetical rail gun than gunpowder propelled weapons. Big cloud of electricity, a set of forks, and a race with stuff in their lore about being masters of magnetism . It doesn't really matter what you think though, ranged is pretty much nonviable and needs to be fixed... It's pathetic that it hasn't been adjusted all through beta and all through retailRL doesn't have much relevence here and, RL black powder weapons were unreliable but reasonably deadly while having an accurate and effective range not much more than fifty feet.
