It WAS needed. Because of thise there is now something esle:
Instead of selfmagic there are now selfheal skills. Those can refill almost your complete HP, Sap,.. when you activate them, but have a recharge time of 2 minutes at the start (+10 secs longer recharge for each further lvl in these skills).
For example, at magic lvl 1 (150 max sap) you can learn "self heal sap 1" for 10 SP, which gives you 100 sap instantly and has a recharge time of 120 sec. At magic lvl 10 (250 max sap) you can learn "self heal sap 2" for 10 SP, which gives you 200 sap and has a recharge time of 130 sec. And so on, same for hp and stamina selfheals.
One exeption are focus selfheals, which give you only 50 focus per upgrade.
You can only activate 1 selfheal ability at a time. If you used "self heal sap 2" you have to wait 130 sec until you can use any self heal ability, including self heal HP, stamina or focus.

Re: what is changed in selfmagic
As said, it's an ability. No spell. Like the auras you don't get exp for using them.
