Resource Tracking: bugged or no?

I have searched through the forums here and there seems to be some indication that resource tracking might be bugged. Can anyone tell me if this is the case? I have tried searching for fiber and find everything but fiber, even though it tells me I am within 1m and I take 2 or 3 steps back and then prospect in a 5m circle around the site.

I am trying it right now and I am finding oil, shells and everything else, but no fiber. Oddly enough, I think I successfully tracked down some wood, the actions are identical except for material type. I don't think I am doing it wrong, I follow the track to the 1m mark, step back, then prospect using a 20 degree cone in a circle. Can anyone help me understand the whackiness that is resource tracking?

what stanzas are you using?


when i resource track here's what i use

deposit tracking 100m
prospect for supreme mats
forest specialization
fibre prospecting specialiation


thing is if you don't use the fibre spec, then you will find what ever material is the closet or what ever mat the game feels like giving you

also when you try and prospect after that do you use the fibre specilization?
also where are you trying to forage?

Deposit tracking definitely is bugged, with the most frustrating issue being that its inconsistently bugged so its hard to tell what exactly is wrong...sometimes it works wonderfully, sometimes not at all.

That said, when it works wonderfully fiber does in fact work. You might consider switching between major and minor nodes and seeing if that helps.

I don't think resource tracking is bugged. the stanza dont always work though, there is always a chance of failure...or why bother to have a minor and major option for the stanza.
I found the higher my skill the better it worked so...dig dig dig

Currently I am using the following:

harvest: 50m range, Find Fiber, up to fine

I was using my standard 5m 20 degree cone prospect for any resource action, but I am going to try prospecting for just fiber now. I also just got the 40 degree cone. I am looking near the fyros town, kind of close-ish to the south gate I think.

I use the tracking regularly and have never really had a problem with it. I do find that there are times where I track a particular type of mat and then have to use the mat specialization in my prospect action to actually get the node to pop.

One possible problem you might be running in to is that there's no fiber in the area, then tracking is just leading you to the first "fine" mat it comes across. try using "up to choice" in your tracking and seeing if that gives you a different result.

ok, just tried with the 40 degree fiber prospect and still found nothing, but it did keep saying the specified resources were near, which is odd, as I did a complete circle at 5m range and the track told me I was within 1 meter. The second time, I moved to a new spot and I did find fiber.

I guess I will stick to dead reckoning and luck until my level is higher and I have more focus to spend on this.

Tracking lies to me all the time. Using major mat specs and all I get to the spot and then prospect EVERYWHERE around it wasting all of my almost 3k focus and using the same mat specs and it usually says theres no mats in the area or at least none of those specific mats.

if you're doing that then that's why you aren't finding things, the cone can't be used with the tracking, also remove the fine limitation because you may or may not be stumbling upon a choice spot, which yeilds a no mats found if you're looking for only fine mats

I've used tracking to sucessfully mark and harvest spots all over atys. It has never failed me. The only time I had a problem was when I wasn't paying attention and Used Craftable Item Part Specialization by mistake in my tracking stanza. This will provide odd and incorrect results. Make sure you are paying attention and use the correct Material Specializing and see if you still have problems.
