I agree, in any game, no matter the combat system, you have to decide which player...not just character is more helpful to the group. In my EQ days, I have seen players allowed to die due to STUPIDITY (you don't wonder out of your room in a dungeon DUH!, you stick together and you don't just randomly pull when you aren't the main tank.)
I used to love how bomb heals at high range would nuke the target instead of healing them during beta.

Healer: Please don't do that
Stupid person: it's fine, we will be ok
Healer: no really... please stop doing that, you are going to get us killed
Stupid person: pfft stop worrying so much
Healer: *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* now you have about 20 seconds to say you will stop doing that and get rezzed, or you can respawn.
Stupid person: sorry
Healer: *rez* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *WHAM!* *rez* and that's in case you forget why you were given that lovely dirt nap in the first place.

This has been a very helpful thread. Thanks to all who contributed. I was trying to setup my macros as andisty2 mentioned:
andisty2 wrote: I have all the macros set up for the number pad.

1 = heal first team postion
right Shift 1 = Sap first team postion
right Ctrl 1 = Stam first team postion

2 = heal second team postion
right shift 2 = sap second team postion
right ctr 2 = sap second team postion

and so on all through all 8 postions.
I currently have 3 bars setup for melee , magic, and harvest. I setup a 4th bar just for heal/stam/sap spells for the macros. What I wanted was to be able to have my magic bar up which also had speed up, auras, and all that good stuff and just have the macro quickly switch to the heal bar, use the shortcut then jump back to my magic bar. That way I could click on something in that bar if it's important and still have the numpad for healing.

The problem I ran into was the macro wouldn't work if I tried to switch back to the magic bar.

For example:

Target teammate #1
switch to shortcut bar 4
run shortcut 1
everything works fine up to this point
switch to shortcut bar 2

When I try it the macro will not cast heal but will switch to shortcut bar 2. If I'm already in shortcut bar 2 it will run shortcut 1 there but not in shortcut bar 4.

Anyways I don't know if this is a bug or if I'm just doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem I ran it into is that is tries to run all the comands in the macro at the same time or pretty close to it. So switching bars and then casting a spell and switching back won't work. AS it tries to cast the shortcut spell at the same time it tries to change the shortcut bar. So I have to be on the correct shortcut bar before using the macro. That is a limition I have run across so far.

Now if you could only put a pause in the macro, but that would then lead to other problems.

Aye, i would like a pause, but then you could make continuous macro's, or macros that repeat each other, which would make a healer be able to level up while being afk, which we dont want :)

I have been experimenting lately with heal bombs. I've made a double heal hp power 100 bomb 3 and a double heal hp power 140 bomb 3 actions. The heal affect is less but the double heal still heals plenty and the marginal cost of making it a bomb vs. casting 2 or more non-bomb double hp heals seems to be not very high for the ability to heal multiple people faster. Normally I wouldn't use heal bombs but I want to know what other lev 100+ healers think about double heal bombs.

AFAIK French players performed some extensive tests with aoe effects, the main conclusion I got is that there exists a bug that makes that your amplifier power is not applied to secondary targets (or so they say). bomb in heals does not seem worth it but in some particular setups like 2 tanks and low spamlike heals
