Another useless affliction spell is madness IMO
At lvl 60 I decided to test this out on a scowling gingo. At 40 meters away I linked madness and the gingo runs to me and starts chewing on my leg, after I lost over 1500 hp and the gingo only hit itself once I gave up and pulled out my sword. It would have killed me if i hadn't been 110 melee with 2300 hp.
Not sure how effective it is at much higher lvls but at low lvl it stinks.

Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
It is no use at all, root would do be alot better in any situation.dakhound wrote: does slow movement work / have any use?
Slow movement would be more usefull if it would last and not have to be linked.

Just out of curiosity What is your lvl in def/off affliction ?vinnyq wrote:Blinds, madness, roots, stun, and fear really do work.
They suck at lower level, as is all skills. Keep leveling them.
And make sure you're 'linking' them and not just chain casting.
Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
well I dont chain cast at all, you always want the link and thats how I plyvinnyq wrote:Blinds, madness, roots, stun, and fear really do work.

madness is one I have used rarely as it does not seem to have any effect but I have not tested it to an extent that I can comment on really,
blind on the other hand I have tested quite frequently and landed many links only to see absolutly zero effect. Take for example when you get blinded by a gingo - do you care at all, I sure dont because I still dodge the gingo and hit it every time and it is the same if you cast it on any mob.
Its not a balancing issue either because if you look at for example Stun, it has a near same effect (if not better) in the description and it works quite frequently.
root works there is no denying that, it probably works too often when compared to other affliction.

Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
I'll share a little story just for fun (and it does NOT mean madness is über in any way).
Some time ago we were hunting great Jugulas in grove of confusion.
As the team consisted mainly of melee fighters it took us some time to
finish them off, but it was a lot more fun than having some nuker kill them
in an instant
All but one that died the second after my madness linked. We all concluded
that he basically killed himself as the others had not even hit him hehe
Mind you this has happened ONCE and I doubt I will see it again any time soon
In general madness works better on high lvl mobs as they deal more
damage.
ps : chain casting is for noobs - I've never chain casted ever !!

Blind works fine here. I use it most frequently when fighting a mob thats way higher lvl then the tanks. Blind makes it unable for the mob to dode or parry any of the melee attacks, added to it all melee attacks do 100% damage. If blinded even a lvl 1 fighter can hit a lvl 250 mob.
When we were fighting the big boss from the event in January, the boss' hp went down like rock every time I managed to blind it for a few seconds. I appeared to be very effective.
A blind & sunt combo also works real fine for leveling guildmates below your affliction level. If one caster blinds and the other stuns a mob 20 - 30 levels above your affliction lvl, a low lvl fighter can kill it with ease. Pick the right mob and you'll hit 3k xp every time.

Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
thanks for the input Flora,
I'm getting a little confused now though because it never seems to work for me. can you answer a few questions for me so I can playtest this myself
what lvl affliction are you?
what mobs do you believe blind works best on?
do you think the frequency the mob hits goes down or does it stay the same when blinded?
I would really appreciate your input as I would hate to think I was shouting about something I have not tested properly.

Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
Madness is useful. As I have stated in other posts, it is not a "must" have but a nice to have spell. It works good with agressive mobs that hit hard, specially cuttlers and jugulas. Granted, you don't use madness to solo/tank mobs other than suckling yubos when you are waiting at yrk gates, but, if your elemental is too high, you can use madness with 1 or 2 tanks and a healer, and reducing kill time. You will see the HP bar of the mob go down faster. Sometimes the mob inflicts itself a pretty good blow and the effect is very noticeable. I'm 200+ off affliction, and I have been using madness with satisfactory results since lvl 120 or so... there are also other indirect effects, like less stress on healers since the mob hits himself.trigem wrote:Another useless affliction spell is madness IMO

Re: A few questions for bugging mentalists
Cool, well theres one less spell to gripe about/playtest
I dont know if this happens already but it might be nice to see the in the action window "mob X hits itself for 400dmg" while linked with you

201+ been using blind as a regular spell since the beginning of the off affliction branch.dakhound wrote: what lvl affliction are you?

best afflicted mobs: tyranchas, kibans, cuttlers, jugulas, gingos, zerx, etc.
some kitin are immune tho.
note: a blind mob *is* able to perform critical hits (pity! )
not sure about the hit rate, but I think it hits for less damage, dodges less and takes more damage in average.
As posted by roninpvp in NA "In many groups it is quite possible that the tank will miss a lot and potentially can not land a hit on a mob before the nukers take out the mob. This chance obviously increases as the number of nukers go up. When I play as a tank I am relieved when there are multiple nukers in the team and someone offers to do a blind nuke missle or just afflict instead of nuking. This usually slows down the speed of killing just a little so the tank doesnt miss out on much xp and often lands blind that increases the chances the tank will hit and get xp."
