Rules/Guidance for New Guilds

Post by mcjames »

Hello everybody,

We just founded a new guild and would appreciate your help in giving us suggestions/comments or a basic list of procedures to make our guild rules for our members and for new members enlisting. We are trying to organise ourselves and need some more ideas and thoughts to make life enjoyable for everyone. I already have some topics noted which can help us go towards the right direction:

1. Basics: personal behave/loyalty/stealing and bribing/offenses to other people/breaking rules/team work/relation to non-members/etc.

2. Guild Goals: objectives/relation to the world/etc.

3. Enlisting: professions/races/requirements.

4.Training: basic training/Academy/tutoring new members.

5. Missions: type of missions/goals.

6. Promotions: ranking/requirements/medals/performance.

7. Leisure: walks/hunting/competitions/holiday activities/birthdays/guild anniversary/etc.

8. Equipment: distrubution/maintenance/acquiring.

9. Workshop: raw materials/tools/crafting.

10. ?

I am just trying to put everything together so we can edit our procedures for our guild. If you already have a list for your guild and don't mind sharing and or sending us a copy, we will be very obliged, but please omit any names from your copy. The reason is I could not find anything among the messages in the forum and in the manual which would enlighten us.

Please any comments and or suggestions are very welcome.

Kind regards,

Make sure people behave themselves; have a strict set of "rules of conduct". A recent incident has shown what can happen if even one person is "naughty" or accused of being "naughty"
2. Guild Goals: objectives/relation to the world/etc.
Have some... thats all I can say really; as long as you guys have soe idea of where you want to go and what you want to do, you should be good to go ;)
3. Enlisting: professions/races/requirements.
Its up to you. Some guilds have strict lvl requirements, some have fame requirements, some have race requirements etc... Some just let anybody in. I think the most often used recruitment reqs are that they have to be in the same continent as you, they're a nice person, and they can abide by the rules :D
4.Training: basic training/Academy/tutoring new members.
New members are your future. I know it sounds cliche but its pretty obvious really... Try to help them lvl or get equipment. Again its up to the guild in questoin; some give all the new guys the best equipment they can make, some just help them lvl and give them the equipment they *need*
5. Missions: type of missions/goals.
uhm, this is kind of the same as the guild aims. Mostly I think its best to pick someone group (kami/karavan or a race) And try to get people to do missions for them over anyone else.
6. Promotions: ranking/requirements/medals/performance.
As for the ranks within a guild, you can either reward levels, people you like, or people who are online a lot and so are more useful in getting stuff out of the GuildHall (only HOs and the Leader can do that). Bare in mind also that officers/HOs/leaders affect the guild fame more than the members do.
7. Leisure: walks/hunting/competitions/holiday activities/birthdays/guild anniversary/etc.
As in events? Some guilds are very prominent, some just go with the flow ;)
8. Equipment: distrubution/maintenance/acquiring.
We have a list... The mats go to whoever can use them most effectively. I dunno what other guilds do though.
9. Workshop: raw materials/tools/crafting.
Crafters are essential. If you don't have good gear, its much harder to get places.
10. ?
Sign up on the list :D

Ehm, personally I hate rules, regulations and expectations. Mostly when I didnt make them up myself.

I think most regulation come down to the same thing:
- be nice
- no killstealing (see rule 1)
- no scamming (see rule 1)
- no profanities (see rule 1)

Remember you are having the guilds name over your head, make it so that the other guildies can be proud of the hand / brocolli / birdie you all wear.

For making rules: remember that eventually people will do what they like best. Some like a guild with many rules, some like a guild with very little rules. You will find the players that will fit you most.

I'm nice! But I must admit, I swear like a trooper on ocassion. Be nice is always a good rule of thumb though.

Personally, for me, if you're going to have a guild make sure you vett the people who you're going to let into it. I don't care how, that's up to you, but if you just let anyone in it'll all turn sour. Maybe not immediately. It's like having someone who has an infectious disease in an enclosed space. Eventually, they're gonna get to someone.

Thank you fr your replies boys. It's very interesting learning about the way people think and from your experiences in the game. Since we are just starting, I would like to have a sort of balanced and moderate guide for our guild. Yes, I agree. We do need regulations, at least a basic one to start with, otherwise the world would be a chaos, right?

But the important thing is that we are here to enjoy the game, to know new interesting people and enjoy their companies. It does not matter which side you are, Dark or white forces, everybody needs to abide rules unfortunately on everyday basis. From there you can adapt your style of life and just be happy, really.

Anyway, please folks keep sending more ideas and suggestions so that everyone in the forum can also learn about it.

Thank you all,
Keerasam
