Seems kinda silly to me to untrain something, but, gameplay-wise, I guess it could be acceptable if you'd get like 50% of your skill points back when you untrain (or unlearn if you prefer) a skill or something along that line. And to make the whole unlearning process make some sense, you could toss a skill to some sort of unlearn limbo and you'd eventually "forget" about it, and get some percentage of your skill points back. (It's both brilliant and dumb idea, depends on how tired the people judging it are).

Anyways, the current situation is fine, I think. But my opinion might be a bit subjective as I do already know what the majority of different types of skills do and how practical they actually are, or are they even worth training. The in-game descriptions for stanzas could be more detailed, so the newbies (or people who just wouldn't know) wouldn't hassle their skill points for skills that they later on find very useless. Then again, why not just make every single skill useful when used accordingly ;) (and worth those skill points, moreover)

I'm dead set against any form of respec. The system has easily enough flexibility for someone to switch their specilizations around a little. While you wait for the 'usless' skill to be fixed. Especially since most 'usless' skills are actually fine, just unfasionable this week.
If you take a skill , find a use for it , be creative.

NB: I wasnt in beta , I dont know more than anyone else. Read the descriptions before you buy , test things , enjoy the system.

Being able to untrain skills is actually a huge bonus. But then I've been a UO player for almost 4 years where that is possible so perhaps I'm a little biased. ;) SWG also uses this system.

I like it because you then don't live in fear of 'messing up your spec' as you go along. Especially as a beginner, it's easy to waste points unnecessarily and make mistakes. Plus if you wanted to try something different out once you've reached the top, you don't have to go and start a whole new character.

But maybe that's just me. :)

Ok...but for those who are not at the4th mmorpg and do a lot of msitakes(me) it would be a nice way to not have to reroll a char 25 times....i can't spend all my days on the pc rerolling a char because i messed up20 SP....the system is really cool,i know, but why should i use forever a sword just because i trained bleeding at first lvls...and didn't know that swords mats are kinda impossible to find while pikes' ones are easyer?this thing wasn't said in any manual or forum...anyway it was just a suggestion....and i do still think it would be cool...have fun

Never thought of people giving back all their crafting skills once NPC vendors go live and spend their reimbursed points on combat or magic while buying their stuff from then on?

I would be the first to do so on jewelcrafting (I admit it) and put a whooping 600 pts into magic - even a percantage of 600 would be a bargain. :D

And thats exactly why I dont like the idea of untraining abilities.

Only difference in the mats used to make swords and pikes is that swords need counterweight. Apart from that, the mats are identical, except the quantities.
